with two girls? I don't know what time we will get there so it can't be a show or anything like that. We are dropping DH off at a business function and it will run fairly late (around 12 am or so). So what to do with a teen and a preteen that late at night?

when will you be there? If it is holiday time (still fun if it isn't) you can do Rockefeller Center area. You can go to Little Italy or Chinatown for dinner, dessert and shopping. Soho is fun to walk around in also. The streets are still very busy so it is fine for walking around.

Not holidays. This is a last minute thing for DH so we are going up next weekend. SOHO sounds nice. Anything in particular?

I'll second the Chinatown suggestion. If your girls like Hello Kitty at all they'll love it since there seems to be HK stuff everywhere. The food and outdoor vendors are awesome.

Times Square and Dave and Busters. :)

How about going to the TKTS booth and see what plays they have tickets for, and then have dinner afterwards?

South Street seaport and a ride on the Staten Island Ferry

also looks like the observation deck at the empire state building is open til 2 am

I don't think we will be there early enough for a play.

Empire state building sounds good too. Maybe we will do that and spend some time in Times square. Also might be good to eat in the theater district during sho times. Restaurants should be empty.

How much time do you have? If it's just a few hours, I'd go to Top of the Rock and maybe have a nice dinner somewhere. Where will your DH be? Unless you'll be apart for many hours, you'll want to stick fairly close to his location.

Also, the restaurants in NYC can get pretty busy late at night. People get out of shows and have dinner. Also, the Clubs don't get started until 10-11pm.

Top of the Rock, walk past Radio City,(never know who you'll see coming or going) take a quick stroll through St. Pats Cathedral. There is a cool restaurant bar type of place in Rockefeller Plaza where the ice rink goes. Walk up to see FAO Schwartz. Check out the neat stores in Times Square. All with in walking distance.
