I am going to Universal/IOA in Sept by myself. My friend had to back out today.

I am planning on staying at the Royal Pacific Resort. This will be my 1st visit to Universal and looking to have alot of fun. What kind of things can a single person do. ?? Will I have as much fun by myself as I would if I went with someone?? Not really sure what to expect. I purchased Kelly's book and have been reading that but I was planning on 2 of us going. Any suggestions ya'll have for the single person ??

You'll have alot more fun by yourself.
You go where you want, when you want. That means literally running thru the park from ride to ride.
On the coasters, get in line for the 2nd row, and if the 1st has an open seat, it's yours.
You won't be lonely. People in the lines will talk. They say things like, "Have you been on this ride?"
I've been on many coaster trips by myself and prefer it that way.
Will probably travel to CP or SFMM this year, alone.

The best advantage to going alone is single rider. Use it and your time will fly.

Just come on down to your friendly hotel merchandise shops supervisor...he can get you taken care of!!!

I have never done a full visit by myself, but I travel with a friend who doesn't like roller coasters or thrill rides. I always get up early and go to the park alone and she meets me there about two hours later. I have a blast riding the coasters and seeing what I want to see. The people I meet while on the rides are so friendly. I am in my fifties and have had more fun with the local teenagers I meet on the rides. If you like the parks and are friendly, you will have a great time.

I like waiting in line and talking to people, Just yesterday I was walking by Hitchcock and 2 older women and an older man were looking at an old park map and saying Hitchcock must be behind Shrek.

So I told them it was closed, and she said "That too, did you know Kong was closed?" I said yeah I was hear that day. I said Hanna-Barbera is closed as well.

So we were talking a little bit about the parks and where she was from and wanted to know what not to miss before they leave Friday, not just at Universal. They came for the Shuttle Launch tomorrow, so I told them if they want a parking spot for the launch I'll allow them to park in my yard for free.

It's little things like that I like doing at the parks.

I love being asked to take pictures for people, I don't think I could ever do that, but when someone asks I will never refuse. Sometimes I see people taking pictures of each other then I walk up "Would you like me to take a picture of the 2 of you togther?".

Back in 2000 use to bring my CD Player to the park and listen to that on line, because by 2000 the lines were the same old thing and I got bored. Now I just enjoy talking to people and listening to peoples discussions about the parks and rides.

Sometimes my husband will go play golf while I ride the rollercoasters. After a few times on each coaster, I always go to the Backwater Bar at Confisco's for lunch and a beer. It's nice to sit at the bar, talk to the bartender, maybe watch the TV and noit have to be alone in the middle of tons of familes.

Just thought I'd bump this thread. I'm going to have to go to Universal Studios Hollywood and Magic Mountain by myself. It'll be the first trip I ever take by myself, so I'm kind leery of what to expect. In my experience, I've always had a ton of fun when I had someone to share it with. But... the person I was gunna go with backed out on me after the room and tickets were already purchased, and no one else wants to go, so I guess it's just gunna be me.

I look forward to being able to jump from ride to ride and do hatever I want, but I'm kinda bummed. Hope it turns out ok. Los Angeles is a big place for a single traveler.

I love going by myself. I do what I want, when I want, why I want, as many times as I want, and no one else is there to argue with about where to go next, or when to go next, or how many times to go next.

The only times it gets a little awkward is when you're eating, but as for walking around the parks, it's tremendously relaxing to go solo.

Eating alone doesn't bother me. I'll never see these people again. :rotfl:

I would wonder about LA too but we've been there and other than the bad traffic and the sheer size of the city area, I didn't really notice much difference from anywhere else. Just allow plenty of time to get to wherever you're going and have a great time.

I understand that a lot of Universal Hollywood is done via tram. I'd love that if I was alone personally.

I did Universal Hollywood alone several years ago when I was there on a business trip. I am not friendly or outgoing, but I still had a great time! Doing what I wanted when I wanted was really nice. Since I'm not outgoing, I took along a small paperback to read while waiting in line. A couple of times (for Terminator and BTTF I think) employees seemed to feel sorry for me standing there reading my book and brought me to the head of the line! And really, it didn't bother me, even eating alone since I had something to do.

One thing I'm glad I did even though I felt a little weird was getting some pictures done with costumed characters. I usually have no interest in that, but I wanted to show my kids some pics of me (having fun without them -- hah!) and chose their favorite characters -- Shrek for the little kids and Xena and Gabrielle for my older daughter. Those were nice souvenirs.

Hope those taking solo trips will have fun too!
