What to do if it is storming when we are at Typhoon Lagoon

We have rented 2 umbrellas for an upcoming visit to Typhoon Lagoon. Right now there is a 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms for both the morning and afternoon the day we are there and I am considering cancelling. I understand there is a 24 hour cancellation policy for the umbrella, but where do you go if it storms at Typhoon Lagoon? It is our check in day for our resort, so the room probably won't be available. Thank you.

Before you cancel, look at the amount of rain expected and the expected duration of the rain.

You can have a 70% chance of measurable rainfall, but if there is only predicted to be an hour total of duration and a rainfall total of .08 inches, then it shouldn’t be much of a disruption. If it says it’s going to rain for four hours and the total is 1 1/2 inches, then cancelling makes more sense.

As far as where to take shelter, any structure with a solid roof will provide protection. So long as there is no lightning in the area, they won’t shut down the pools and attractions due to rain. Personally, I would go inside a shop or indoor dining area, or even take cover in a restroom if it’s a bad thunderstorm. The lightning here is no joke, and can strike if a storm is several miles away.

Hear thunder, run for cover. Florida is the lightning capital of the world.

Disney has lightning rods on most buildings to attract lightning away from the people.

Back when our AP was also for the water parks, we would go into the stores and browse if they closed the water.

The nice thing, the water parks really clear out during a storm, so when the water reopens there will be less people.

I don’t know what the determining factor is, but we’ve also been at the water parks during a thunderstorm and they ended up closing the whole water park for the remainder of the day.
