What to do for DDs Sweet 16?

I'm stumped. DD turns 16 in 6 months. She wants to go to WDW, of course, but we can't do it until Spring Break which falls between Palm Sunday and Easter.:scared1: I"m pretty sure we don't want to go then!

So, I need some other ideas. We have entertained the idea of a cruise (even though I am not a boat person.) We've been to NYC, Disneyland, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and New Orleans.DH suggested Europe, but I'm not sure we want to go that far. We're in the Atlanta area, so I guess potentially we could go anywhere.

It would just be DH, me, and DD.

I would say cruise. Europe is really expensive right now with the dollar being so low plus, you need more then a week to do anything in Europe. Keep in mind a Ship is much different then a boat :lmao: .

A cruise? Europe? Whatever happened to the "sweet 16 party?"

Could you adopt me? I turn 50 in a few years! We can start planning my celebration now!;) :goodvibes

We had a party for my DDs sweet 16 last fall. She invited all her friends and family. It was alot of fun!

All of your ideas sound great!

I know, I know. I was just thinking that since she wanted to go to WDW if we couldn't do that, maybe something comparable. But your right, she would probably enjoy a great party with all her friends. I just hate parties! :rotfl:

How about a weekend in NYC? You could go see a show on Broadway and go shopping ;)

My dd will be 16 Thanksgiving week and she wants nothing!!!Not even a party!!! Maybe she is holding out for a car which she will not get. lol!!

My DD turned 16 this August. We threw her a small party with close family and her friends. On her actual birthday, she chose to play a round of golf with her Dad. It doesn't have to be huge to be memorable! Whatever you decide, hope she has a great birthday!

My DD(15) turns 16 in 6 months too!! We are getting her a tutor for her SATs!!! I had no idea how expensive they are!!!!!

We will probably take her out to dinner with some friends too!!!

Is she interested in Asia at all? Japan is an awesome place to visit and the dollar is still strong there, so it's not as expensive as Europe. You could also consider some other European countries such as the Czech Republic, Prague is an awesome city!

Oh my...I'm sorry, but for some reason that struck me as so funny.

agnes!

Wow, seriously?! A vacation just because its her birthday?

Will you adopt me? Pretty please? :cool1:

Why not just a party? For my 18th birthday all I had was a BBQ in the back yard and that was 2 years a go!

Hope she has a nice day whatever you decide on :)

I didn't even have that. I'm pretty sure it was just a birthday cake with my parents like all other birthdays were.

Obviously I wasn't a spoiled kid.

Well DD sweet 16 is next month. We rented a hall and she is inviting 100 of her friends. Didn't even think she knew that many people. She lined up the DJ and we're getting snacks and drinks but that's about it. Oh I forgot and since I'm on the FD I know a bunch of guys in the PD and they are going to help chaperon. I don't think there will be any problems that way.

If you can take time off for Europe or a cruise, why not go to WDW?

But, in my family it's pretty much just a nice dinner out with the family and a few gifts, same as all the other birthdays!

I like the NYC idea, but honestly I think a cruise would be a better bang for the buck. NYC especially in the spring is $$$$

My 16th isn't until May, but I'm hoping we can get to Spain in Fall 2009. I really want to go back and visit my family, the last time we were there was in 2001. I know they definitely want to see us, plus I have tickets for an FC Barcelona game. We wouldn't be going just for my birthday though, we'd probably celebrate my mom's too.

Other than that, maybe just go bowling or something with a few close friends. Something relatively inexpensive.

What about taking her to a spa and pamper her? Maybe bring a close friend?

This probably isn't what you are looking for, but decided to post anyway. DD turned 16 in July. We had her party in August. She chose an Asian theme. Dh did roast pig, corn on the cob, and salad. We also had chow mein, vegetable stir fry, pot stickers, and egg rolls. DD and I made most of the decorations. Including two giant Chinese take out boxes, and pillars. It was awesome! I actually made her cake, and I am no decorator. I used rolled fondant and put an sweet sixteen symbol on the top, along with stars. That got quite a few nice comments. We also did a candy buffet. We bought take out boxes for everyone to take their loot home in. We had about 60 or so people all together. Most of the kids, said it was the best party that they have ever been to. Everyone had a blast. It was a ton of work, but it was really worth it. :thumbsup2
