Well depends on when you are going, because as of right now both those places are closed for dining.

We haven’t been yet since covid but croketts tavern and p&j’s southern takeout are both showing as open online. I highly recommend both as we always make sure to go to both of these places. Exploring the fort via golf carts is one our favorite things to do as well as the boat rentals.

This old blog I wrote, almost a decade ago, is dated and Covid-19 has impacted some of the activities, but it gives you some of the basics!

Enjoy your adventure! :)

Our poster Gary Cruise shared the link above and has many great Fort-related articles on the ALLEARS website - he has good advice (I met him in person at the Fort on a past visit and it was like meeting royalty).

My one add-on is that great activities don't have to cost extra money at the Fort. COVID has curtailed some events for sure but personally I loved the early morning walks through the loops as the sun is coming up through the Spanish Moss.

Some guests are theme park warriors (rope drop to close the parks nightly) and they miss out on the Fort magic. The Fort is best enjoyed on a non-park day or when you have a few hours to spare IMO.

Don't expect to be entertained by the Fort - but do enjoy being relaxed by the Fort.

Nice detailed look at all the activities available! We have so much fun at the Fort and typically spend one day and one evening there on every WDW trip. (We have a two week Fort Wilderness trip coming up in a few days. Staying in an a RV).

Ed and Marx, you are both absolutely correct . . . My wife Carol and I love staying at Fort Wilderness and that enjoyment has very little to do with the theme parks.

We do enjoy the parks, which are close by and easily accessible, but the campground is so serene and so calming that all the hubbub of the parks seems a whole world away.

It is by far the most calming and relaxing of all the Disney resorts.

I no longer have any interest in the parks but I do love the Fort. It's a destination of it's own with many things to do if you so chose, or simple relaxation. It's a great jumping off point for resort hopping and restaurants above the ones at the campground itself. We like relaxing at the quiet pool, but if you're looking for a little more high energy there's the theme pool. We like jumping in the golf cart and looping as well. Lots to do without even leaving.
Really looking forward to some of these restrictions being lifted as well as our favorite restaurants opening back up.
