we( me and my 2 dd4) have 1900pf reservations in sept for 5 PM. I am hoping to stay for the fireworks at 9 PM. What is there to do at the grand floridian for a couple of hours. I am not much into shopping.

There isn't much. Honestly, I would probably hop onto the monorail and go over to the Polynesian and watch the fireworks from there. It's a better view and your children would probably enjoy the beach area over there a bit more.

The orchestra will be playing when you finish dinner, so you might enjoy relaxing in the lobby and listening to them for a little while. You can also take a stroll around the resort grounds and enjoy the view of the castle from the marina/boat dock area. My suggestion would be to do that and then hop on the boat to the Poly to explore that resort too and enjoy the fireworks from its beach (since, as Pakey said, the view is better from there) with a Lapu Lapu in hand. :thumbsup2

At the GF itself? Not much. It's a nice place to explore, but walking around the resort probably wouldn't even kill an hour. A couple of hours would give you time to ride the monorail around to Poly and CR and check them out, or maybe take the boat over to WL and/or FW and have a look around.

Does the orchestra typically start their set at 6 pm?

1) To-do at GF in the afternoons?
2) Basically, Nada.
3) As mentioned, you can sit and listen to the pianist and orchestra.
4) Other than that, zip.
5) However, there are a few options
. . . rent a pontoon boat and circle the two lakes (oops, boats are close by then)
. . . jump on the monorail and go around-and-around-and-around
. . . visit the shops on the mezzanine level
6) That is about it.

I would take the monorail over to the Poly or the Contemp and watch the fireworks! at the Poly.. grab a dole whip! :)

If you are into pin trading - You can resort hop on monrail and pin trade... My DD loves doing that.... :)

It is ride and pin trading in one :)

and I must comment.... HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LOVE SHOPPING??????

:rotfl:

I would monorail hop. Visit the GF's stores and walk around a bit. Then get to the Poly and CR. CR has a really nice arcade and the shops at both are quite nice.

 You're welcome.

Oh, I forgot to say - the pianist and orchestra alternate throughout the night. Seems to be about 1-1/2 hours on/off.:)

You are almost right on! I was there yesterday (Friday) - the pianist started at 3 pm and stopped at 4 pm. The orchestra then played for 45 minutes (the trombonist is very talented - he also sang "You've Got a Friend in Me"). The pianist came back at 5 pm and then we went to dinner so I'm not sure what happened after that. Thanks again!
