What to do after parks close?

We will be at Universal RPH from 1/27 to 1/30. (actually we move to Disney the morning of 1/30) I see that all the Universal parks close at 6:00 even though it is a weekend. What can we do at night if it is too cold to swim? On Friday I have a 6:45 reservation at Tchoup but what do we do after the parks close and on Saturday and Sunday?

You could go to the Dixie Stampede Dinner show one of those nights.

Yes, that would mean renting a car, otherwise you'd have to hire a cab. It's about 15 minutes away on the east side of I-4. You'll need a reservation if you decide to do it. The food is good, and you'll enjoy the show.

You could drive to a restaurant on I-Drive or north of the park, eat dinner, and then relax in your hotel room. Most of the time, my feet are worn out, and I'm happy to go to bed early so I can wake up the next morning.

The RPR has a tiki show on the weekends. I didn't see it on our visit because it was not playing, but that's another idea.

We usually go to the movies every night that the parks close early. The prices are cheaper than at home ($6 with APH discount vs the $8.50 normal price I pay at home) and it allows us to catch up on the movies we may have missed and wanted to see.

Well there's CityWalk right there which is open until late, there's some good stores, and fun places just to hang out, like Margaritaville.

You can walk to City Walk from your hotel. We usually go to the movies. DH and I have also been known to spend time in Margaritaville listening to the band and having a few margaritas. Several of the clubs have bands in the evenings. Pat O'Briens has the dueling pianos which I think begins a bit earlier than the bands at the other clubs. You can ride the boats to the other resorts and have dinner over there. I recommend the Kitchen over at HRH--you probably will want to have the RPR concierge get you a reservation if you decide to do this. Even if you don't eat at the other resorts, you may just want to check them out--pools, menus, etc.

If you are traveling with kids, NBA City is a favorite spot for dining and playing. When you are at City Walk, remember that your room key will get you preferred seating at many of the restaurants (first available table).

I think you can find stuff to do without venturing off site, but if you have a car at your disposal the possibilities are almost endless. We have often thought of going to the Pirates dinner show, but we are usually to lazy to leave Universal, even though we usually do have a car.

Check out this site. This ticket covers over 50 attractions in the Orlando area, alot of which are on International drive which is very close to Universal. Most of them are open until midnight. www.goorlandocard.com

Thanks for the info. Last time we were at Universal was during Mardi Gras so the parks were open later. Guess we will do a few movies. My daughers are 17 and 13 can they go into the clubs to listen to the music?

CityWalk is fun to walk around and spend some time at. We always get dinner at one of the restaurants and do some shopping there when the parks close at 6 or 7pm. Jimmy's is a good place to eat.

Renee,
Our family will be right behind you...may even be getting your old room. We arrive on the morning of the 30th. We are getting to Orlando on Saturday the 28th and spending the first two nights on the beach at Treasure Island by St. Pete.

Usually after a busy day at the parks and then dinner (likely at Margaritaville) we head to the pool for a couple hours and veg out.

Even if the weather is in the 50s we would swim. 50 is a heat wave when you fly in from Iowa!
