We're going to Wyoming next week and I'm trying to figure out what else (besides clothes, camera, etc.) we should pack and/or carry around in the backpacks with us.

sounds like we are on the same trip....leaving Aug 24th

There was a packet that gave some ideas that ABD sent.

Other then that: hat, sun screen, bug spray, medicine, good hiking shoes and socks, bathing suit, water shoes for the rafting. Jacket for cool nights, sweatshirt, etc)

Yes we are on the same trip. I saw the recommended items in the info ABD sent. I just didn't know what other types of things we might need. I thought I'd pack some wet ones, bandaids, maybe a deck of cards for the bus ride? Sounds like we are going to have a great time! Less than one week to go.

oh the backpacks. yes First Aid items and Medicine are good. Maybe an umbrella in case it starts raining. Water and snacks might be good.
I'm hoping they have TV's on the bus.

Thanks for reminding me to bring an umbrella. It has been dry here in sunny SoCal and I wouldn't have thought to bring one. I had been thinking about snacks - I just have to decide what we'll want to munch on. I don't know about tv's on the bus - hopefully: my boys are 7 and 10 and having something to keep them occupied on a long drive will be helpful.

We are on the 8/24 trip too and my niece (she will be 10 in October) is bringing her portable DVD player, we are flying in from the New york area and the listed movie on our flight is not kid friendly. She is also bringing her gameboy last I heard. I am bringing my ipod and study materials as I am taking a certification exam for work 3 weeks after we get back.

I have a bunch of snacks (ritz bits with cheese, cheese and crackers, bite size twizzlers, bubble gum, and some other stuff). I am not bringing an umbrella, I did get a couple of free wind breakers with hoods from work and some dollar store ponchos though.

I have a couple of hats and sunscreen. I am wearing the patra style crocs for the rafting trip, they offer more support for my feet. My niece will be wearing water shoes.

On the advice of my doctor since I have terrible foot problems I got Merrell Hiking shoes. But am also bringing regular Easy Spirit sneakers too.

I have 2 pairs of jeans and a couple of hoodies, plus a denim jacket. Other than that I have shorts and t-shirts and will just dress in layers.

I did get a waterproof camera, just in case.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on Friday!!!!:cool1:

so was everyone able to get a non-stop flight into Jackson Hole?

We are flying out of Chicago. We have to fly to Denver then change planes for our final stop in Jackson. The only way to get a non-stop was to come in a day early, which meant my own transportation from the airport plus the cost of hotel. The only non-stop home would require us to miss breakfast on the final morning.

We arrive at Jackson airport at 12:39 pm Friday

:hourglass

We just arrived back from the Southwest Tour - They have plenty of water and snacks on the bus -

I would also bring some plastic baggies - I brought some and used them for all sorts of things like packing some fruit from the breakfast buffet for the hiking later.

Make sure you bring all you medications and toiletries - I had a hard time finding something I forgot (You do not have easy access to CVS/Walmart etc)
Do not forget the bug spray (we needed to use it several times) Your guides will have extra of everything.

Also - I got a little car sick on the bus coming out of the canyon (Winding Road) so I would take some dramamine if you think you might get sick on the bus

You guys will have a great time!!!!!

In my

Thanks for the info about snacks & water on the bus. Also about bringing the dramamine. As for non-stop flights to Jackson - I don't think there are too many - unless you live in Denver or Salt Lake City. We are flying from Orange county (CA) to SLC then into Jackson. We only have a 45 layover - hope we don't miss our connection. I feel a bit better over what to pack. I just bought a pair of Merrell hiking shoes - glad to hear they were recommended. Just think - this time next week we will have completed our river rafting adventure!!

We have 45 minutes between flights, I have the same concern regarding missing the connection.

I really look forward to the river rafting, my goal is to stay inside the raft :lmao:

We are laying over in Denver with a 2 hour layover, we will be cutting it close as we don't get into Jackson until 3:45. Hopefully we won't be late to the welcome dinner. On the way home we have an almost 4 hour layover, I figure we will just eat dinner in the Denver airport.

I spent last night packing and except for last minute stuff I think I am ready to go!:thumbsup2

We've decided that if we miss our connection (the last one going from SLC to Jackson) we'll just rent a car and drive the rest of the way. Hopefully that won't be necessary, though. I haven't started packing yet, but I have been making my "do not forget" list. I'm excited about river rafting - I just hope the water isn't too cold. My boys are excited too, so far their only experience with rafting is on the Grizzly River Run at DCA, or Kali River Rapids at AK.

One more thing - you will have a great time river rafting - we had a huge water fight it was awsome - if you can squeeze it in a long range water gun would be fun -

We had one family bring one from LL Bean - they of course rocked the water fight!!!

I had a 4yr old with me and she did not want to get splashed and Chris (they guide) kept her from getting wet :)

Have fun

Speaking of water fights and rafting - since ABD made no mention of packing towels- do I assume they will provide them for us at the end of the rafting trip? I also saw that they had "plenty of water and snacks" on the bus - do I still need to get extra water to carry around with us? Also - did all of the restaurants/ dining have "kid friendly options?" I can't believe we're leaving this week!!!

They bring nice large beach towels for you and there is plenty of water - The guides actually recommend certain amounts for certain hikes - most places had kid friendly options - 2 x we asked for something not on the menu (like peanut butter and jelly instead of roast beef) just ask if there is nothing the kids like and they will get it for you.

I asked the server for a coke every morning because I do not drink coffee and need my am caffine - and they brought it to me no charge :)
