What to avoid

Our kids were SCARED REALLY SCARED of It's a Bug's Life... So much that we haven't tried to see it since 2003.

Taking that long ride out to pet the animals at AK I never feel is worth it - in fact haven't done that in a bunch of years either.

As for Stitch's Escape - I have an 8 year old boy - 'nuf said I have to go on it with him at least 1-3 times per trip and the girls never go

Stitch's Great Escape in MK. We all disliked it very much.

We ate at the Coral Reef, I didn't hate it. The problem we had with it was basically before being seated. We had reservations but still waited about 45 minutes to be seated. The waiting area is terrible, and everything echoes in there so groups of waiting children screaming were not very relaxing. Once in the restaurant, scenery is beautiful, food is good, but not outstanding. We don't make plans to eat there, but wouldn't be opposed to it. The waiting was really the main problem. Didn't find the whole experience worth that.

ITA! We've eaten at Coral Reef the last two times we've gone, and both times we've had to wait for quite a long time after our ADR time (we really don't have any issues of waiting anymore than 20 mins. from when we check in anywhere else at Disney.) It's nice scenery, the food is okay, but there's nothing there that I really look forward to eating, so we're skipping it this time and probably won't be back for a few years. I think it's good to do once or twice for the scenery alone, but that's about it.

Crystal Palace is a must for us. Great right in the middle of your day to sit and cool off. The food was great whenever we've been there. Try the Boston Cream pie. The Luau food was good a bit pricey, the story not so good but the dancers were fun to watch but it is long. If your not planning to film much any seat will do. IMO.

For us we would skip:
*Staying at Coronado Springs Resort (would have rather stayed at a Value resort)
*Stitch's Great Escape
*Prince Caspian
I will NEVER:
*Ride Space Mountain EVER EVER again!


We LOVED:
*Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue (thought we weren't going to enjoy it, but loved it)
*Splash Mountain
*Rock 'n' Rollercoaster (I HATE rollercoasters, but actually loved it)
*Kilimanjaro Safaris
*Toy Story Mania
*Many Many Many More

Just got back from our first stay.

What to avoid...

Rope Drop!!!! That is the stupidest thing I have ever tried. From the suggestions here, I made sure we were there for rope drop our first day, Magic Kingdom of course, on Monday. It was outragously hot (record highs for June I think I may have heard, 100 this past Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.) Everyone is packed in there like sardines waiting for the little ceremony and then for the park to open. Our 2nd day of Magic Kingdom, we waited about 15 minutes after park opening on Friday and walked right into the park. The same amount of people were there and we were able to do the same amount of stuff.

Same for Epcot and Hollywood Studios. We got there about 15 minutes after opening and walked right in. Did all kinds of stuff and left when the crowds got too big.

Another thing to avoid...

Arriving too late. Our 2nd day was planned for Animal Kingdom. I couldn't get everyone else up to get there just after it opened. We ended up about an hour and a half after opening. We did nothing. We sat in a 40 minute wait standby line that actually took 2 hours for the safari, then jumped into the Lion King show on our way to the exit because we were already sick from the heat of standing in line for 2 hours.

Mission Space, the orange side. I must have seen pictures of the green ride thinking it was the orange ride because I thought, "that doesn't look so bad, I've done stuff like that before. Both me (38 male) and my 9 yr old daughter had to go find a cold place to sit and wait for the urge to puke to leave.


Things I won't do again because we've already did them and was probably our only trip to Disney, but would recommend you do.....

The Lion King Show at AK. It was fantastic.

Soaring. FANTASTIC! I never thought it would actually feel like you were really flying. My 9 yr old loved it too.

Thunder Mountain Railroad. I've always been a fan of big roller coasters and this can't compare to a real roller coaster. But, it was my daughter's first roller coaster and as soon as we started to whip around the first turn, her eyes opened and bugged out so huge, I thought they were going to fall out. That wouldn't have been so bad though, because they would have just been caught by her gaping mouth. She let out one single laugh from the moment we moved until it was all over.

Splash Mountain, my daughter's favorite. We rode it 3 times the first day and 4 times the 2nd day on fast passes. She loved it so much, I had to grab a single final fast pass ticket for her to take home and keep.

As our first trip to Disney, I can not express enough how important Fast Passes are. Splash Mountain, Thundermountain Railroad, and Soaring was never less than a 75 minute wait any time I looked other than the first half hour of being open. We rode Splash Mountain 7 times in 2 days, Thunder Railroad 3 times in 2 days, and Soaring 3 times in 1 day and walked right on with fast passes.

Disney in summer when wait times are over 1 hr.
I can stand hot or crowded. Not both.

Its kind of funny the two Nagtive things Disney Is really known for, Crowds and heat, and Its the two subjects that people still contenue to to want to complain about. . You know Its going to be hot and Humid right!,you know that Its going to be crowded right again? then why act so taken back by It?.
Never been to WDW?, well you still must of hered of Flordia and Disney?. The vetreans of WDW,well there Is just no excuse

You were lucky then! You sit in a dark room listening through Earphones drew narrate around a studio getting lost and doing lame jokes. DHs headphones were broke and he just sat in the dark. Actually maybe he was the lucky one.

The Carousel of Progress. I know some people really love this, but we got stuck on it for over an hour and I don't ever want to hear that song again!

Also, anyone who has an issue with things "spinning".. My husband was dizzy and sick to his stomach after this ride.

Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey..UGH. SO STUPID. What a waste of time! I am amazed that they still have that running...you literally sit in the pitch black and listen to noises.

Couldn't agree more, however, it is a nice air conditioned building to rest your feet and maybe get a little nap in.

I agree. We never even go into World Showcase other than to eat at Le Cellier, Rose & Crown or Akershus. We do everything in the front. My son loves all the rides but everything beyond that is boring.

We went to WDW for our honeymoon and ended up in tears the first day. My DH wanted to go to EPCOT so bad and after a few rides we started walking around the world showcase I was bored out of my mind. At one point I just burst out in tears. I was crying "I came to Disney to have fun not learn stuff! Can't we go to a fun park?" LOL

You may do the Kim Possible with him. It's cute. We picked France and Japan.

Well, I am in the minority with you. Can't stand the sight of those turkey legs!

Me, either. They just look nasty and there is something about watching people walk around gnawing on them.

On this last trip we were very disappointed going to Downtown Disney. Not that the shopping wasn't interesting but the transportation was horrible. We waited for an hour to get a bus to DTD. We had to have a driver call in a bus since none was coming. Then on the way we tried the boat to POFQ but we just missed one and the next one was not comming for 45 minutes according to the captain so we waited back at the bus for another 30 minutes.

I'm not much for shopping anyway but DW wanted some gifts. Just spent half the day waiting for transportation when we could have been in a park. Of course when we were ready to leave POFQ to go to the parks there was a bus waiting for us when we wanted to head to Epcot.

Um, yes you can. It's easy. Go in Jan. We've been in Orlando with coats and hoods up many times.
My comment was directed to the pp before me referring to heat and long lines and it just made me think of it again. I guess I should have quoted her. I've never been in June or July and never will. I did try end of Aug last year, week leading into LD weekend and it was empty. As I said before, I can stand heat or crowds, just not both.

My kids HATED Stitche's Great Escape!!! I hope they take it out. I always thought a cool ride would be based on Monsters Inc. like a ride through were all the doors are hanging in the movie.

My kids also HATED Stitch! Especially since I sat in someone's leftover gum and spent 20 minutes in the bathroom trying to get it out (by the way, the alcohol based hand sanitizer worked great!). The gift shop nicely gave me a new tshirt for free.

I am sad to say this, but my boys also avoid HM. Every time we are on the ride, it stops around the graveyard. I still talk them into going, and last time we were almost through the ride when it stopped. DS 21 was in another doom buggy and yelled out: "OMG Not again...!"

I love all the tips about things everyone loves at WDW, but are there any things you wish you would have skipped...food, snacks, rides, attractions? Something that your little ones were scared of?

I am thankful for this site as it has helped me to plan out our first visit as a family, I used to live about 2 miles from DL and my mother would take me and drop me off with some friends so I really do not know how many times I have visited that park, but I do not recall anything besides the teacups that I would not want to ride again.....I do think thou that seeing 3 different people talk about the Stich ride that we will avoid it!

Carousel of Progress and The Hall of Presidents are two I will never do again, unless it's to torture my BFF when she eventually goes to WDW with us. I have told her I'm making her go on CoP. That said, I'm glad we didn't skip those two. They've become part of a running joke with me and my DH, and I even have the song from CoP on my iPod to randomly play in the car to catch my DH off guard.

Other things I definitely won't do again are the Swiss Family Treehouse, the Figment ride (the original one looks so fun on YouTube videos too) and the Lion King show that's in The Land pavilion that's about saving the Earth or something like that.

Up until I started reading this forum I would have said eating at Cosmic Ray's but I've been convinced to give that a second try. I think the DH and I just had a bad experience the first time.
