what times of the year do you really need the 11 month window?

I know the "busy" times are different for DVC than for general hotel ressies, so can someone explain when you actaully need the 11 month window to get the dates you want, as I am thinking about buying, but don't believe I would ever plan a trip 11 months out, so I am thinking now not to worry about home resort and just go for the best point cost deal.

thanks for the help!

The first few weeks in December are low point and WDW is decorated for Christmas, so that's a very busy time for DVC. People book 11 months out on a day to day basis at their home resort. Some will try to get another resort at 7 months, but most want some ressie in their hand before waiting to book somewhere else.

We are newbies, and so I don't know about other times.

Typically, the F&W festival will be heavily booked at all DVC resorts, but much earlier at BCV and BWV because of their proximity to Epcot. As mentioned earlier, the first two weeks of December are also filled early, but I would think OKW would still be able to be booked in much less than 11 months. Of course, holiday times are also heavy bookers.

It seems that 11 months is more important for the type of room than for a room. For example Christmas/New Year's a busy time of year at WDW and DVC in general but DVC rooms were still available when the 7 month window opened (I know because I reserved one). Grand Villas at OKW and standard views at the BWV are always difficult. December is a busy time because of the low points needed to stay, the annual meetings and the holiday decorations. For a Grand Villa or a standard view in December, day by day calling is suggested. Boardwalk views are also at a premium but easier to get than standard view.
