what time do the groups come to check-in

just wondering how best to avoid the masses

On day of embarking, we arrived at around 10:15am, and were able to check in at 10:30am even though the sign said 11am.

The mass check in comes around 11am to 12:30pm. The line to embark was very long by 11:30am. But remember that once you are allowed on board, around 12:15pm, it is a very fast process.
We were at Topsiders Buffet by 12:30pm and at Palo's for reservations by 12:45pm.
