The boat to MK starts running roughly 1/2 hr before park opens. The boat to the Contemporary begins around 6:30 am. What I would do for early MK day would be to take that boat and either walk to MK from there. Or grab the monorail for a ride to the MK.

That trip would take a good bit of time. The resort monorail runs clockwise around the lagoon wich makes the Contemporary the first stop AFTER the Magic Kingdom. To take the monorail to the MK you have to first stop at the TTC, the Polynesian, and the Grand Floridian before arriving at the MK. It is a lot faster to walk to the MK from the Contemporary. There's a good walkway and it is an easy and short walk to the MK gate.
It is a nice walk in the early morning. When my brother and I went on the Steam Trains tour we parked at the Contemporary and walked over to the park. It was a beautiful morning and the walk was enjoyable. It was a nice way to start the day.

True, but if you're there early enough it doesn't really matter since you won't be able to get into the park until 7:55 AM anyways. We normally walk, however sometimes it's nice to take the Monorail trip around and just enjoy the scenery. Normally you're going to end up waiting at the gate anyways once you get to the MK. You're only talking about a 15 minute monorail trip compared to maybe a 10 minute walk (especially at those not totally swamped times), so there isn't much of a difference.
Although the walk can help you build up an appetite a bit more
Can you believe we've never been to MK early, as in before opening. Heck, I'm not even sure if we've ever made it to MK for an opening!!
We're looking forward to seeing Main Street sans crowds!!!
I think we'll take the boat to CR and then the monorail to MK. It will be our first full day at the parks and a monorail ride in the morning should start the day out right!!
And I shouldn't have said we have an ADR. I must have had brain freeze!!
My DD has an 8:00am sitting at the new BBB in MK!!!
Until my last trip I hadn't been in the MK early. My DB and I went on the Steam Trains tour and the tour guide took us up to the second level of the train station to get a good view of Main Street. It was cool, and kind of freaky, to see Main Street nearly empty. Nearly empty as there was a few CMs around getting everything ready to open and there was a group of guests being escorted down Main Street for early ADRs. Otherwise it was a ghost town. Near the end of the tour we went back to the train station and this time Main Street was packed. A BIG difference from earlier on.
Back in 2000 I got to see the MK's opening show, where the characters come in on the train. It was a lot of fun.
We have never been to MK early either. I am looking forward to seeing the park empty. We are doing the train tour on our trip in December. We will take the boat to the Contemporary and walk from there. Can't wait!
Thank you for posting this. Our second day at Disney we have to be at MK early for a breakfast with the "girls" and I would'nt have know about the boat. It's the things that you don't think to ask about that sneak up on you.
They used to have counter service breakfast by the arcade on the bottom floor, but I'm not sure if it's still there with all the renovation. If it's still there, it was your normal fare, and I always found it to be good.
