We're cruising for our first time ever this summer, and I understand the ship (the Dream) is pretty much cashless.

Just wondering what things we will need to have actual cash for. The things that come to mind are tips for the folks who will take our luggage at the port (we're driving to port), and room service delivery tips...just wondering what experienced cruisers would bring cash for, to make sure I bring enough. Thanks for any help!

Other than tips for luggage and excursion folks we dont use cash for anything. The ship is cashless. you use your room key for charging. you can go to guest services and put cash on your room key. tips for room service can even be signed for. But Ilike to give mine in cash.

We also carried cash for excursion gratuities, cab fares, souvenir shopping in ports, etc. I try to not use my credit card in foreign ports as much as possible.

Tipping is the main thing. We did use cash for a taxi, souvenirs, and lunch or snacks and a drink in some of the ports.....that is about it though.

TIPS!!!!!

Cash for TIPs is optional. Cruisers will need $ notes for Port Porters, and tips for guides on tours. You can use for room service, but also can charge that.

Standard Tips for stateroom host, server, assistant server, head server, are automatically charged to your stateroom account, unless you pre pay them. You can go to guest services to opt out and pay by cash if you want. Palo, Remy, you charge the tip on a slip at the end if the meal, Spa and bars auto tips are added and charged.

In shops you charge, port adventures are charged to your account, as well as photos, adult meals, and special coffee and tea such as at Cove cafe.

I carry cash for tipping the luggage handlers at the port (getting on and getting off), tipping room service on board, tipping tour guides, bus drivers and boat crew while on excursions, and to purchase things on excursions (souvenirs, drinks, snacks, etc.). I will also put extra cash in the tip envelope (in addition to the coupon for suggested amount, which is automatically added to your shipboard account). This way I do not need to visit guest services to increase the tip amount for stateroom hosts, servers, etc.

I prefer to use cash in ports when I can. Other than that I use it only for tipping the porters, tipping room service (yes, I know I could charge that to my room, but I choose to give cash), and adding cash to the gratuity envelopes. Again, I know I can change the standard gratuity at guest services, but giving cash saves me from having to stand in line at guest services.

I was shocked at how much cash we went through on our 7-night Eastern. Excursion guides and bus drivers. Porters. The DCL bus driver (both ways). Room service. Housekeeping at the hotel the night before... I know it was over $100

Silly question please - is it £ for Dover porters - or are they Disney porters and we should use $? Thanks!

Just a question to add on to this... How do you tip the bartenders on board?
as previously mentioned they are AUTOMATICALLY added to your bill. I did not know that on my first cruise so tipped every time. now nothing wrong with tipping extra but I just wanted to emphasize that the tip is already built in when you sign the slip

All beverage purchases have a 15% gratuity automatically added. Those gratuities are pooled and shared by all beverage servers and bartenders. You can tip a server or bartender directly by adding an amount to the charge slip you sign or using cash. Any direct tips go only to the designated server/bartender.
