What the heck? (Mods, please close!)

TOV, you can report your thread and ask the mods to close them. They will get an email and you will not have to bump this tragedy up to get it noticed.

That said, I have to say that Shannon dodged a bomb. I work with an insecure, sensitive person and believe me, it's not fun....

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the company's response to you. It was courteous, professional, and truthful. You are way too sensitive and have an entitlist attitude that can be seen from the darkest recessess of space. Good luck in your job hunt.

There was nothing bad said why close it?

Let's see, because:
When she was interviewing so she could escape Sonic and the horrid boss, she got pages of the SAME advice.

When she lost the lunch lady job because 'her myspace picture showed her in her school issued polo', she got pages of the SAME advice.

When she lost the daycare job because she left some of her charges unatteneded and lamented that 'no one told her this was bad', she got pages of the SAME advice

She's complained that she didn't have appropriate interview attire, and people gave her tons of advice. She's complained that she's getting interviewed,
but they don't call back and gotten even more advice.

If this gets closed, it drops out of sight. The OP thinks that eventually, she can start the same complaining again and we'll all forget this current drama. Alas, managers have a Looooonnnnnggggg memory for this type of stuff (ask me about 'the tree' someday) and we call her on it every time.

It truly is a wonder to me how every job is so horrible. I had ONE job where I went home crying every day. I had a couple (in 22 years) where the bosses were horrid. But it seems like EVERY job OP has had (and now, applied for) they must be 'out to get her'.

Train Wreck, anyone?

Personally I think it should be left open.

Maybe if posters realized that they had to "live" with thier threads they wouldn't start threads they didn't want to live with.

OP,

When I get a resume that shows the person lives a distance away, I ask them if they realize where my company is located and what their commute will be. Most times they don't realize and aren't interested in the job for that reason. I will hire only local people for my lower paying jobs. With gas prices being high, the commute is not worth it for a job that pays 10-11 per hr. If a mgr does hire someone with a commute, they last only a short time. We end up being a transition job until the employee finds one closer to home.

If I had a job interview cancelled due to childcare issues, I would not reschedule. I have hired 2 office workers within the past year. Both volunteered during the interview they had a child. Both assured me that they had childcare lined up and would't have a problem with working full time. Fast forward to summer and both were looking to go part time due to no childcare during the summer. Both had absentee issues regarding childcare. We were able to accomodate 1 worker but the other resigned when we said no. It was funny, she said she would give us notice then 10 minutes later walked into my office and said she was leaving.

OP, you need to learn that you can't allow pride to get in your way when searching for a job.

I had not kept up with these threads but do seen a pattern. It's pretty sad, actually.

We only have to read them, someone is dealing with this close up. :scared: I hope she gets help.

I hope this doesn't get closed. There's no real reason for it to be closed. No-one is violating any DIS rules.

I agree it shouldn't be removed. If it were a onetime occurance that would be different. However, since the OP keeps posting threads like this they should stay open.

I still get calls from people that want to interview me. I haven't been in that field for almost three years, but they have kept my resume on file. I always thank them for thinking of me. Who knows, one day I may decide to go back to that line of work.

An OP can request for a thread to be closed without a rule being broken.

I'm not sure why you felt the need to post this on the DIS. I dont mean to be rude, I just dont see how posting this will do anything.

Its not gonna get you the job, and you dont seem to want to hear advice... So... why?

I've never had trouble getting a job in my life. The fact that youve been on this job hunt and been through so many interviews amazes me. Show up, dress nice, sound intelligent, tell them you'll work hard... whats hard?

And just for reference I dont work at the BK Lounge, I work in patient affairs for a major non-for-profit.

I kept re-reading the original post to figure out what was so "wrong" about the response by the potential employer.

lol. guess i should read till the end of a thread... i didnt know all of this...

Here is yet another thread I've opened simply because it says to close the thread. At first I thought this might be another OP bash fest, but I see the reason for people's responses.

TOV, you've got to use better communication and people skills when job seeking. It is very discouraging to get those letters, but its a part of everyone's job search. I wish you luck.

.

Not picking on you, but this seems like a bash fest to me. Just because a person isn't well liked, that's a reason to beat the crap out of her? Personally, that's what it seems like to me after pages and pages of people belittling and berating someone, no matter how silly or wrong they've been. If someone says something that people feel is stupid, why not just ignore her?

I guess I'm just adding to the mess by posting this, but it just bothers me a little. I think that the pages and pages of people giving the OP a piece of their mind seem at least as silly as the original post.

I'm not going to comment on the original subject of this thread (anything I could say has already been said). However, I have to respond to this.

Personally, I think the OP would be more upset if people ignored her. Negative attention is still attention, and it's obvious to many here that the OP craves attention.

So you are saying that you all responded because you didn't want to upset her by not responding? :confused3

Do you not know the OP's history or are you just ignoring it?

Personally I wish the Mods would make this closing/deleting request stuff clear. There are other palces I post where the OP can delete their post on their own. It really helps cut down the number of threads like this, and since the place encourages only on thread per topic, it really cuts down on the number of repeat threads.

Yep. Because we DISers are a charitable bunch! ;)

I certainly can't and won't speak for all the people who've replied to this thread. I have no idea what others' motivations are for posting. Just making an observation.

TOV loves attention. TOV posts things that ruffle DISers' feathers. TOV gets attention (mostly negative, but it's still attention).

TOV, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
