DD got her current position through networking. She met someone on a plane who had a business in her "major." The lady gave her a card, and told her to call when she was nearer graduation. She did, the lady had no openings. However, she called a few days later, said she knew someone who was looking for someone with her qualifications, and he was very interested in interviewing her. (I assume DD had made a very positive impression) Long story short, that's how she got her job...strictly networking.

DD had no idea, when she sat down on that plane, that the person next to her would play such an important role in her life. However, being friendly, nice, and polite to EVERYONE never hurts.

I probably shot myself in the foot when I typed a hasty reply telling her not to bother because if that was the reason she was not hiring me.

A more appropriate reply would have been:

"Dear xxx, thank you for letting me know that the position has been filled. I look forward to hearing from you when you have another opening.

Sincerely,

yyy

But it kind of bothered me that was the reply I got after I took the time to send her my resume and inquire about her company.

They didn't have to acknowledge you at all. Your sense of entitlement is amazing and scary.

Eh, she's been displaying this attitude for years on the dis. Same ol stuff, different year/job.

Face the facts TOV, you have a poor attitude and absolutely no sense when it comes to job interviews or respect for your supervisors. You have three pages of people telling you that you are WRONG, yet again, though I'm sure in a couple of months we'll see a similar, "Woe is me, why can't I get a job, why is everyone out to get me" post.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

So TOV when are you going to take the excellent employment advice you're always getting here or at least get trained or go to school to better your predicament?

:confused3

Yup, same ol stuff, different year/job...

Hi *name*,

Thank you for your interest in our position. Unfortunately we have decided to hire another candidate who is within just blocks of our location. I'd like to keep your resume, as we have so many projects coming up!

I wish you the best of luck in your search for employment. Thank you again for your interest.
Best Regards,
Shannon So-n-So

What the heck? If you don't want to hire me, say so. I won't get upset. But that kind of response just kind of threw me for a loop.

I am really not sure what kind of response you were expecting? You received a personal response from the founder of the company. As others here have said, it isn't common not to get a response at all. Heck, one time I interviewed with a company - there were several interviews, including one that required them to fly me to another city. I took personal days from my current job to attend these interviews. I never received a response from them at all. I will admit that I was a bit miffed, although I knew that there was a management shakeup at this company at the time that might have had something to do with it. All you did was send in your resume - was that really such a big deal :confused3

And - after checking out the website for Summer Soles, it seems even more unfortunate that you responded the way that you did. Shannon McLinden seems like a pretty neat person and would have been great to work for. You may have learned a lot from her.

OMG! :scared1:

I didn't realize TOV had the actual name of the company in her first post!

Wow! An MBA at 21, owner of her own company, and an author. She's a pretty savvy lady!

I'm taking my toys and going home.......

I am SO over the whiny *** folks on this board.... if you didn't want opinions, then why the hell did you ask for them?

I agree, the OP has a habit of posting and then if we all don't tell her that she is right and wonderful she wants to whine and get her posts closed.

To me, this is one of the things I don't like about the DIS. If I start a thread, I should be mature enough to realize that I may get trashed LOL! (And I have been.)

What did she really think we were going to say? That smarting off to a prosepective employer was great and the way to get a good job?????? :rotfl2: A dose of reality needs to occur here, but based on the limited exposures I have had to this poster, I doubt it will ever occur.

I guess a better question (and one I am asking myself) is WHY do any of us bother to respond to her?

How many others think that the company has a program to notify them when their name appears in print or on the internet? Or, if she's like most of us, the owner will google her name/company name from time to time to see what's out there?

I think that this rant will get back to the owner soon, and she will KNOW who posted it (name, address, etc), and that not only was the OP rude to her, but shared her response with thousands of others. Shot in the foot? I'd say the OP cut her whole leg off.

I've asked myself the same question.:confused3

Sometimes I wonder if half of what the OP post is really true.

How can one person sabotage every job she has/interviews for? How hard is it for an adult to hold on to a job at Sonic? :sad2:

TOV, you really need to grow up and place blame where it belongs.

You'd be surprised... If I didn't know better I'd think she was my life long friend Liz... she's a freaking CPA & cannot hold a job for more than a couple of months... she blames it on the boss, the coworkers, they downsized, the insurance wasn't good, they didn't give her the salary they promised... it's always everyone elses fault & not her own... she's currently unemployed. I even tried to get her a job at my employer once many moons ago & she felt the pay was beneath her...

You know my boss once told me "I know I can be an XXX, but if EVERYONE you work for is an XXX maybe you need to look in the mirror"

This was in regards to a former co-worker who was trashing him on her way out. (And most of us thought he was being generous, gave her 6 months to look for a job etc) When she came to us she told us all how horrid her last two bosses had been. Now this was a woman with a good degree making 6 figures. And why was the current boss so bad, he expected her to come to work. THe problem was her job was in one city and she had moved 200 miles away. She claimed this would not be a problem, but....

Most bosses (myself included) have bad days, moments etc. However, if EVERY boss you have ever had is HORRID all the time, then........are you sure it's the boss?

What is with people getting responses they don't like and then deleting their original post or asking for the thread to be closed. It really shouldn't be allowed.

There was nothing bad said why close it?

Many people interpret others pointing out their mistakes as a personal attack. As I recall, "Does/Does not take criticism well" is one of the options on most performance evaluations.
