OK. Maybe I missed the boat\notice here, but I need to vent. Were going on our yearly trip to Disney in August. The 14th though the 25th. My first pain was learning that Big Thunder would be closed. Then Dinosaur. I was like, OK, I can deal, but boy, two major attractions at the same time? Now I read that Small World will also be closed starting the 22nd of August? ***? Seriously? REALLY? Three MAJOR attractions all at the same time during AUGUST!?

No one can tell me there is any reason for that. None. Zippo. That's just ridiculous. Not even mentioning that the Swiss Treehouse, Muppets, Little Mermaid Show, and I'm sure a few other things I've missed will be closed as well.

Ah well, rant over. Guess we just have to deal and wonder why I keep going back year, after year, after year. Should have skipped this year and done a Univerasal\Busch Gardens\Clearwater trip.

Bah, I HATE how much we enjoy Disney otherwise!!!!

We're going around the same time and dealing with the same closures. Sure, it's annoying and I'm really sad that BTMRR will be closed, since it's a favourite. Last year it was Pirates that I was most upset to miss. But, I also know that it's a necessary evil in a park that is open 24/7. There is no off/closed season for them to do routing maintenance, so it will always inconvenience guests when they do have to shut them down. As for the timing, late August is a low/moderate crowd time, so it makes more sense than peak time. I'm sure they want to have as little down as possible as they head into holiday/party season.

It's always sad when that happens. But on the bright side, it makes planning your days just a little bit easier.

I agree, it stinks. We all understand it has to be done and any closure will impact SOMEONE'S vacation, but its still disappointing that 3 major rides will be down.

Yup we are going the first week in September and we'll be missing those closed attractions as well. I am mostly upset about BTMR and Dinosaur. But on the bright side, we are REALLY looking forward to some new things as well, that have been closed for a while - new Soarin movie and Frozen Ever After. So while it stinks, I feel bad for those who were there these last 6 months and had no Soarin and missed the opening of FEA.

Enjoy your trip! I would rather be there and miss some favorites, than not go at all. ::yes::

I know from experience that it sucks when some of your favorite attractions are closed for rehab. On any of my trips there is always at least one. Whats worse is when you have multiple trips planned and the same attraction is closed during that span.

Eh, I get it. Again, like I said, just venting. (It's Friday and it's slow at work, LOL).

In all the years we have been going, we have always had at least one major attraction closed. I think having 3 of them all at the same time just seems excessive. Out of all of them though, believe it or now, Dinosaur is the most upsetting to us. I love it, the kids love it, it's probably in our top 3 rides at Disney in general. At least we get Small World open during the first week of our trip!

Unfortunately, it's a necessary evil. Think about how many people come through the park on a daily basis and how much use/abuse the attractions take, and how many different attractions there are. They have to refurbish them to keep them up to par, both in looks and performance. That means they have to do it more often than we'd want. It's disappointing, but the trade off is that WDW is kept in FAR better condition than most amusement parks.

How many of you have been to places like Six Flags? We're AP holders there too. They don't close rides for refurb as often as WDW, and it shows. The place is a total dump, at least the one here in Atlanta and some of the rides frankly seem to border on unsafe. I'll live with the refurbs WDW does in exchange for having it as well kept as it is.

That's a lot. We are going around the same time, so I feel your pain. Obviously it's not truly important in terms of life :) but it's a bummer when a favorite (or two, or three) are closed.

Hey OP, I was all excited about my son being big enough to ride BTMRR and then they pushed back the refurb to happen during our late October trip. It's always going to happen during someone's trip.

With a trip scheduled late August into early September, these rehabs are really annoying. Any chance any of them get switched?

Yep, they will be closed while I'm there too. I'm not too upset about Dinosaur since I haven't ridden it the last three trips and believe it or not, after over 30 years have never ridden Small World. I love BTMR and love riding it at night but really will miss Swiss Family the most, silly right. Oh, well just incentive to go more often, hey any excuse works.

Is there a page on here with all the expected closures? We hit WDW 27th July for 10 nights so wondering what we'll miss - although I've made our FP's and nothing was declined which I guess it would be if it wasn't open on that date?
One good thing about theme parks in the UK is that they have a big window of opportunity to rehab or refurbish rides - called a British winter!!!

I like this one: http://allears.net/pl/refurbishments-and-closings.htm

Thank you!! Off to look now. Would be a shame if BTMR was down as my nephew (now 21) was nearly an ex-nephew at DLParis when he was much younger and quite a titch. He was tall enough to ride but very thin as he had a heart condition. He was in the front of the carriage and just slipped down in his seat little by little so it looked as though he was going to slide under the safety bar. I was behind hanging onto the hood of his coat and praying it wasn't a detachable hood, whilst his mum sitting next to him just tried to hang onto him as best she could whilst he slipped bit by bit lower in his seat. Yikes!!:eek::eek: All ended well thankfully as the ride finished before the inevitable tragic conclusion, although no doubt it looked worse than it actually was. He wasn't at all bothered and wants it to be his first ride in July!

Its unfortunate that so much is closed at the same time. We will be affected by the closures as well.

Odd, that link that bilnshel gave does not list It's A Small World, but I saw it someplace else.
