So the family is planning a trip for October, this will be my 3rd October trip in a row. The last two years I didnt book til end of June or start of July. Only needed a couple of studios as my sister and her family already booked a 2 bed room at SSR. I was going to try and get the studios at OKW as my mom and aunt love the larger room and 2 real beds as opposed to the fold out. I call yesterday and there are no studios available...almost anywhere. Only avail at SSR and not even for the entire length of my stay. I have never seen so packed in October before. Is there something different going on this year in October? I know the food and wine festival is going on at that time but thats nothing new. Ended up book at SSR with the first and last night being a single studio (we'll be cramped :rotfl: ) and the rest of the stay in a 2 bed room. I was floored when they said they had nothing. WOW! Seriously I dont believe there is ever a slow time at WDW anymore. They need more resorts and a 5th park :rotfl:

Food & Wine Fest is a BIG part of it. There are also Halloween Parties. Many schools have a "fall break" in October. I know here in MN, it's MEA and people flee the state. Not necessarily as huge as Jersey Week in Nov, but it happens. I've also heard that October is a big convention month.

Maybe there are some DVC members that are avoiding August and September because of the free dining plan. If that is true, maybe they are pushing their trip off to October. Just a thought. I know that we are going in October and are extrmemly glad to be missing the free dining plan.

I think it is just members booking earlier than usual - the 7 month window opened for October in March. There are some like yourself who got shut out by waiting and now are calling as soon as the 7 month winodw opens. DVC membership has increased significantly and there are many, many more members trying to book at 7 months than there used to be.

October has always been relatively popular and it almost always booked up at some point. It's just booking sooner now than it used to. I think the trend will continue. JMHO. YMMV.

it is, 2 years ago that is why I was down there...and got hooked on the disney halloween :rotfl: but the DVC properties dont usually draw the convention crowds since the conventions wouldnt be held there. I was just shocked by total lack of studios already. The 25th there isnt one available period!!! :scared1:

It all worked out tho we'll be cramped that 1st and last night, not that I mind, but just seemed way beyond what I expected. In a way I was almost glad by the news. I have always enjoyed my stays at OKW and like that its cheap in terms of points, but I've really come to like SSR. Like the layout, great for jogging (the Boardwalk area resorts are as well)

we ended up at a studio at OKW on oct 23 and 24, then SSR 1 bedroom(Only thing available) on oct 25, then studio at SSR on 26th. ( At least we won't be changing resorts, just rooms)
We have gone the last 4 octobers, and have never had any problems! Very strange this year.

I guess we won't unpack the whole time we are there!
We are waitlisted for the last 2 nights at OKW.

I am secretly hoping that the new smoking policy will cause a few cancellations , enough for me to get 4 nights in a row in the same place!

The Pro Golfers are also there in Oct.

Yup them and they do a lot of the villas. They may stack some Cash rooms for this time as they know they can unload them fast for this event.

Also World Cup Paintball is the last week as well but I'm not sure they would hold many DVC rooms for them.

The Pro Golfers are also there in Oct.

In addition to the golfers, there are 2 large professional groups that I belong to that are booked at WDW for conventions during the week of the pro golf tournament. I don't know if that would affect DVC availability, however. As previously mentioned, this probably reflects growing membership, implying that the advice I received here about DVC being good for those that are able to plan trips 7 to 11 months in advance continues to increase in importance.

And the Race for the Taste and Susan G Komen 5K earlier in Oct.

We booked a studio in BWV at the 11 month window for 4 days in October. Wine and Food Fest!!! After that, DH has a professional meeting at the Hilton at Downtown Disney, so we will go to the Hilton for just two nights.

We have been there several times in October and I think it is the best month to see the parks. Guess we won't be alone.

Free dinning is the best time to go it keeps the people eating and away from the attractions :lmao:
yes it is a little harder in some places to get a table without ADRs but I have never had a problem with groups of 4 or less except for that now infamous steak place that no one knew existed for the longest time

Monkeypants, just FYI...I was at SSR for four nights in the beginning of February, and there was very limited availability of room choice due to a convention, according to the CM who checked us in.

Early February was the International Builders Show. It was difficult to get a nice room anywhere in Orlando. I think they had something like 35 "Show" hotels, plus there was plenty of spillover. We were lucky enough to snag a room at SSR for that time, but it wasn't easy.

The pro golf tournament is November 1 -4 this year.

You know, you could post a rental request on the rent/trade board and see if one of those "commercial" renters would release one of the rooms they are hoarding and rent it to you. You could then rent an equal amount of your points to pay for it, and who knows, maybe even make dollar or two.

October 22-26 is Teachers convention in Wi and a lot of us come to WDW. I put down the whole week because my son's school is the beginning of the week and my daughters is the end. We are staying Oct 18-20, cruising DCL 20-27 & staying Oct 27-28

We Try to do this week every year but this is the first time cruising this time of year

Judy

October 25 is WDW's anniversary. Is this a special year? Any reason for a press event?
