We leave ours at 55*. We don't want our furniture, etc. to have too much of a temp. change, plus my house plants. Also, when we return, we don't want it to take forever to heat back up to a *livable* temp.
Really don't think our heating unit will set much lower than 50* anyway - maybe others will set differently.
We were told 55 by housing (we live in military housing). But we have animals in the house so I'm planning on 65 since it's been in the negatives outside.
We leave ours at 58°. If not for our dog I would keep it cooler, probably 52° or so, but she's older, arthritic and doesn't do well with being kenneled so we leave her home with a friend coming over morning and night to feed, water, and walk her. At 58° with her bed by the fireplace she's comfortable.
I am not sure what we are going to do. We are in central TX, but it will be down to freezing some nights. The crab and the dog are staying with my parents, but I don't want DDs tropical fish to freeze! I may leave on a lamp near the tank.
Set your heat for mid 50s and open all sink cabinets. You can go lower but when you turn the heat back up the walls will sweat. We set ours for 54F.
We actually winterize our shore house when we go to Disney. Power loss is so common that we can't count that the heat will work the whole time we are gone.

You don't have a heater in the tank?
When we go in the winter we just leave the heat off completely. It still freezes outside but inside stays warm enough. If we have someone staying at the house they turn the heat on as they need it. Our fish tanks have heat so they stay warm enough. Actually they have to stay warm enough, they are salt water and we don't want everything to die because it gets too cold.
