What temp do you keep your A/C?

Ours is set at 73-75. We just had it installed last fall (actually DH did most of the work and it only costed us $3500!) Our bills are about $20 more than they used to be and it has been running constantly since mid-May. We have a one story home.

My brother in law has a 2 story house and they run the fans more than they run the a/c and his bills have increased $50. We don't ever run a fan.

i have forced air -- not the greatest!

i am also a bit backwards when i sleep i need to be cool - so at night from about 10p - 6a i set it for 71 degrees

when we are home its set for 75

when we are not home 76

Ours is programmable

8am to 2:30 - 77
2:30 - 11 -73
11pm- 8 am - 75

We have a flat rate billing and our monthly payment for 11 months is only $94.00. That if for a 1400 sq ft house, a detached garage, and an in-ground pool running 12 hours a day for 5 months a year.

I can change the temp from my phone :woohoo:.

73 and our fan is ON. Sometimes, I make it even cooler. 58yo woman with a built in furnace AND my husband generates quite a bit of heat too! :)

In past summers, we have consistently had $400 electric bills due to trying to cool 2700 sf in Texas. This year, we just can't afford those high bills. For the last few months we have kept it at 80 all day long. Which kills us at night, because we would rather sleep in cooler temps. So far this year, our highest bill has been $230, but we are only in June. Hopefully we won't have to go higher than 80 degrees:eek:

76 is my ideal ac temp, but I have a cheap window ac for the computer/sewing room. Its a small room with one vent, with both of us in here and the tv/computers on it gets really warm.

My upstairs is too hot, and if I turn it back then my downstairs is freezing! I would like to turn it lower at night to sleep better but am afraid of high electric bills!

Keep my house same temp year round at 68-69 some days in summer to cool so I use a blanket to take chill off and in winter if get cold do the same. is total electric and cost more to heat than cool it but are between $80 and 90 a month for 1,400 sq ft.

the worst part of cooling is you have to cool the walls/carpet/furniture and any thing else that holds heat in the room and once that done then it will cool the air iin the room. if one turns the air down then it has to recyle all the the cooling "things" again and cost more. so some may want to just leave at say 72 or 74 but just so stays comfy for your family :cool1:

If just me and my son are home, I keep it at 79, but when my husband comes home, we have to lower it to 75. Then I have to put on a sweater!! I am cold natured and hate to be cold.

Ours stays right around 72. We have a huge oak out front that does block most direct sun from the front of the house. We just replaced our system in May but our bill has always been right around $100-120 a month on the budget billing that only changes annually.

The upstairs gets a little warm because we keep the doors shut (keeping dogs out) but we all use ceiling fans so that helps.

Original poster here - thanks for the tips! I tried running the fan all the time instead of auto and it has made a world of difference. My upstairs is much cooler and sleeping is great!

I'm confused about running the fan only on my furnace. I do it during the spring/fall when I just want to circulate the air (I put it in the off position so it isn't heating or cooling). But, if I do it during the summer won't it just run my a/c 24/7 if it's on the COOL setting?

Edited to answer the original question: we keep our a/c at 75. I prefer 74 or cooler but I try to be good.

The Fan and your AC should have two different settings. We can have the fan on ON or AUTO, and then the AC kicks on when needed. If the fan is on auto, it only kicks on when the AC does.

To the OP: I'm glad it helped! It has helped our house tremendously.
