I started walking on the treadmill a week ago. The first 2 days I went for 10 min, next 2 days went for 15 min, next 2 days 20 min, and the past 2 days 25 min. I'm hoping tomorrow I can get to 30 min:confused: I really struggled today for that 25 min. I have to watch tv to keep focused on something (I like the Game Show Network:p ), but those last 5 minutes was at the end of a show and I think I was just getting bored with the commercials and losing focus. Anyway, I've been setting my speed at 2.5 and it's a pretty comfortable pace for me. Eventually I want to walk at least 1 hour a day. My question is do you think time, distance or speed is more important?? I've never stuck with the treadmill 7 days in a row and don't want to push too fast or too hard, but I want to make the best use of my time and energy to get the best results. Should I stay at my current speed and time, or should I up my speed to 3 and cut back on the time?? Thanks for your support :D

Here's what I do with my treadmill. I walk at 2.5 and an incline of 3 for 20-30 mins at least 3 times a week and try for 5 times week. I have managed to loose doing this and still not over tax myself. There have been studies done recently that show that exercising daily does not accomplish any more than it does if you do it 3 times week.
While I am doing my treadmill I read a novel since this really helps me to pass the time and allows me more reading time.
I too started out as you did and slowly built myself up. I found that if I increase my speed or incline I just tire to easily at this point so I have decided to stay where I am for now and perhaps try raising it in 6 months rather than get discouraged and not do it at all.

Mrssal...My thoughts are to increase your time first.

IMO...I would try and workout at a speed that you can stay at for 30mins or longer. The longer you work the more you are burning. It doesn't make sense to me, to kill yourself for 10-15 mins at a pace that you can not stay at.
You will see over a few weeks time...that you will slowly be able to increase your speed and incline. (this is what I have done).

HTH...
