What specific song lyrics make you cry and why?

Tim McGraw- Don't Take the Girl.

I cry everytime I hear that song. In fact I'm getting all teary eyed just thinking about it!

Ok another country song--- Patti Loveless "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye"

Always makes me think of my grandmother when she was sick and dying. I miss her.

Song? Wind Beneath My Wings

Reason? I think of my Mom (who died in 1998 of pancreatic cancer) and wish she were here to see my kids - but she truly was an inspiration to me and I hope she knows it...

There's a country song that always makes me cry - I don't know the name of it.
If you get there before I do, don't give up on me.
I'll meet you when my chores are through, I don't know how long I'll be.
But I'm not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, til I see you again,
I'll be loving you, love me.

The part where the boy and his grandfather stop to pray when the grandmother dies just kills me.

Runner's up: The Elton John song for Princess Diana
Angels among us by Alabama

Angel by Sarah Mclachlan, most country songs, Breathe Me by Sia

Blessed by Elton John.

First time I heard it was right after my Danny was born - and I still dont know WHY it gets to me, it just does!

ON Eagle's Wings and AMazing Grace.
There is a country song about "the baby" where the singer is the mom's baby and he rushes home at the end but she is already gone....I can't stand that one and I still have my parents; it will ruin me someday when they are gone.
This one is just me: "Shannon" by Henry Gross, which is a 70s song--this is the song that reminds me of my dog that died last year and I can't listen to it without tearing up.
Doesn't anyone else cry sometimes at "When You Wish Upon a Star"? I'm just weird, I guess. I also tear up at the end of "wishes" and the epcot fireworks.
Robin M.

Another vote for God Bless the USA, Let There Be Peace on Earth, and Amazing Grace. I have to sing the last two songs at church all the time (i'm a cantor) and I always choke up.

And another song:
"For Good" from the Broadway musical Wicked.
Lyrics-
it well may be that we will never meet again,
in this lifetime so let me say before we part
so much of me is made from what I learned from you.
you'll be with me like a handprint on my heart.
and whatever way our stories end,
I know you have re-written mine by being my friend.

It's by Colin Raye and i believe it's called Love Me

Some cause me to become "verklempt", though nothing that pops to mind now. Powerful evocative lytrics regarding tragedy include "Something about England" and "Broadway" from Sandinista, both about broken lives and the first about the horrors of war, One Man Dog's "Someone." Besides that, listening to Jesus Christ Superstar" causes deep emotional reactions.

Y'all are making me cry!

Several songs from 3 Doors Down "Away from the Sun". DH bought me the CD before he left for Iraq and used some lyrics in his letter to me before he left. "When I'm Gone" and "Here Without You" in particular. I know there was a video to "When I'm Gone" that was military related. He burned me a music CD set to this with pics of him "over there".
That's so sweet!

For me, lots of Christmas songs, but especially The Little Drummer Boy really kills me. Also, and don't you laugh:

He Stopped Loving Her Today by George Jones

He said "I'll love you till I die",
She told him "You'll forget in time"
As the years went slowly by,
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall,
Went half-crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all,
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated nineteen sixty-two
He had underlined in red
Every single "I love you"

I went to see him just today,
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away,
First time I'd seen him smile in years

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

You know, she came to see him one last time.
Oh, and we all wondered if she would.
And it kept running' through my mind-
"This time he's over her for good."

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

Listen to that without getting teary, I dare you!

Song : Anna Begins by Counting Crows
Lyric: the entire song
Reason : reminds me of someone I once loved very much

Song : Caroline by Concrete Blonde
Lyric : "In another life I see you
as an angel flying high
and the hands of time will free you
you will cast your chains aside
And the dawn will come and kiss away every tear
that's ever fallen from your eye"
Reason: same person

Song: My immortal by Evanescene
Lyric : entire song
Reason : same person

Song : Joey by Concrete Blond
lyric : entire song
reason: same person

Two songs that alway get me choked up are Travelling Soldier by the Dixie Chicks and the theme from Philadelphia by Springsteen, but I think it's more what I associate them with than the actual lyrics- the war with young men dying and the movie, Philadelphia, which was such a sad story.

::yes:: I don't cry for very many songs. But this is like opening a flood gate.

Johnny’s daddy was taking him fishin’
When he was eight years old
A little girl came through the front gate holdin’ a fishing pole
His dad looked down and smiled, said we can’t leave her behind
Son I know you don’t want her to go but someday you’ll change your mind
And johnny said take jimmy johnson, take tommy thompson, take my best friend bo
Take anybody that you want as long as she don’t go
Take any boy in the world
Daddy please don’t take the girl

Same old boy
Same sweet girl
Ten years down the road
He held her tight and kissed her lips
In front of the picture show
Stranger came and pulled a gun
Grabbed her by the arm said if you do what I tell you to, there won’t be any harm
And johnny said take my money, take my wallet, take my credit cards
Here’s the watch that my grandpa gave me
Here’s the key to my car
Mister give it a whirl
But please don’t take the girl

Same old boy
Same sweet girl
Five years down the road
There’s going to be a little one and she says it’s time to go
Doctor says the baby’s fine but you’ll have to leave
’cause his momma’s fading fast and johnny hit his knees and there he prayed
Take the very breath you gave me
Take the heart from my chest
I’ll gladly take her place if you’ll let me
Make this my last request
Take me out of this world
God, please don’t take the girl

Johnny’s daddy
Was taking him fishin’
When he was eight years old

Joe Nichols
"If Nobody belived in you"
Played at my grandson's funeral.

I just heard The Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling in the car yesterday and it really got to me. Rings true for me right now.

Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you,
If you would only love me like you used to do.
We had a love, a love you don't find everyday.
Don't, don't, don't let it slip away.

The one that always makes me cry is "Oh How the Years Go By" by Amy Grant. The first time I heard it was when DS #1 was at College orientation and I just sobbed uncontrollably hearing it. I still always get choked up when I hear it, 7 years later-my ears are tearing now. Last week I heard it in the Supermarket and I cried-people around me must have wondered.

Well, there are a couple:

Home Free by Wayne Watson

I think of my daddy when I hear that song...just because he is finally free of all his pain! His pastor sang it at my dad's memorial service. It really spoke to me.

Friends by Michael W. Smith

I just love it.

Definitely agree with Angels Among Us. They played it this year on the radio in honor of those who were killed in a massive killing spree in Northern NH 8 years ago. A killing spree that would have killed my grandfather had a guardian angel not been looking out for him. He was supposed to be in that very office. That song always brings that fear back, even though I was so little when it happened.
There's a country song, something about "Don't Cry for Me, I Made it to Arlington". I've got a good friend who just joined the Air Force, and will very likely be deployed once he finishes training. That song scares me to death, and makes me cry from the fear.
I'm really surprised no one has mentioned "Where were You When the World Stopped Turning" (Alan Jackson). I do alright until the part "Did you feel guilty cuz you're a survivor". You bet I do. I lost a distant aunt in the attacks. Again, it's a song that brings back fear, and total sadness.
Also agree with "Sarah Beth" and God Bless the USA
