I always cry when I hear "Vincent" because it reminds me of a friend who killed himself in HS.
Now that I'm a mom there are two country songs in the last few weeks that I've heard that have made me cry--"The Baby" and another one whose title I'm unsure of, but it might be "And they do"--saying you tell yourself you can't wait for your kids to grow up...and they do. "The Baby" is also a real tearjerker--like the book"I'll Love you Forever".

I haven't heard One Tin Soldier in a long time, but it used to make me cry.

Now don't laugh at this one, but Milli Vanilli (sp) had one (Girl I'm Going to Miss You" that was playing on the radio as my ex-husband was signing the divorce papers. He stopped signing, looked up, and started trying convince me he had changed and how much that song was really how he felt. So, I still cry when I hear that one. (BTW, I don't regret the divorce because I am alive. I regret my loss of innocence in believing in such a pure love)

I just finished putting together a compilation of songs that were inspired by NASCAR. Many of the songs are in tribute to the late Dale Earnhardt. Goodbye by Alabama, Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynrd, One More Dance by Vince Gill & Diamond Rio and Please Remember by Tim McGraw. They all have audio tracks from the fateful day when #3 hit the wall. It was very sad to me when I first listened to the recordings as I was selecting the songs for this cd. They took me back to that race and what I had felt when I'd heard the news.

I wanted to give a copy to my aunt for her 50th birthday (she's a BIG Terry Labonte fan) but it's almost too somber. There are some peppier songs and some humorous ones too.

"Wind Beneath My Wings" on Mother's Day 1989 at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the nurses gave my DW and I a card with a clipping of our daughter's hair taped to it, and our daughter's footprint in the card, also one of the nurses wrote a note to us, "You are the Wind Beneath My Wings." Three days later our precious little baby girl passed away. Being the emotional type, everytime I hear this song I tear up.

Another song that gets me is, "Butterfly Kisses." We adpoted a beautiful baby girl from Mexico in 1990. Our DD will be 13 this year, and I think about the day that I will get to walk her down the aisle, I get all teary eyed again. There's a line in the song that says, "Daddy don't cry," that's when I lose it.

One all you American friends should look out for is "Angels" by Robbie Williams. Robbie is about to take te American market by storm. "Angels" is the most requested song played at funerals in the U.K. A real tearjerker

Certain songs will remind me of sad times because they were popular at that time. "Glory of Love" by Peter Cetera was popular in 1986 when an 18 year old family friend was killed in a motorcycle accident on July 4th, a month after graduation. "Circle of Life" reminds me of my second cousin who was killed on USAir 427 in September 1994. "In Arms of the Angels" reminds me of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy because I saw a piece on Entertainment Tonight when they were killed where they used that song. It was also recently used for the Columbia Astronauts. They used "Let There Be Peace on Earth" for Holiday Illuminations in 1998 that had me in tears, also when it was used again in the Candlelight Processional in 2001. And speaking of Barry Manilow, he did a remake of "If Tomorrow Never Comes" that was playing in the car when I rushed to the hospital when my Dad died in 1993. I could never listen to that song again.

Christmas Shoes doesn't make me cry because I turn the radio over or off whenever I hear it. It's too much for me.

In June of 1985 when my mom died, "Somewhere Out There" by James Ingram and Linda Ronstadt was popular. Whenever I hear it, it brings me to tears for that reason.
