What size car to fit an ECV in?

I have a midsize rented, but am worried about the size of the trunk. Will it fit and are they easy to fold?

You should be fine, my mom had a late 90's Dodge Neon and her scooter fit in the trunk fine, after it was taken apart, not much else fit in there though.

I think you usually have to take the seat and the battery off, handle bar usually folds down.

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Check out Post #5, which deals with cars and ECVs.

If you have a lightweight travel ECV (such as a Pride Go Go) you can get by with a midsize sedan. However, if you have a full-size (as most rentals) you will really need a full-size sedan or larger.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

Were you planning on putting luggage in there also? If so, you need a bigger car. If not you should be fine if the scooter is as Cheshire says.

No luggage just the scooter. Will it be easy for my husband to put together once it's out of the trunk.
Thanks for the replies- I will read the other info.

If everything doesn't fit in the trunk, you can use the car, if you have the room to do so.

The Pride GO-GO travel scooters, which we are getting one are easy to dismantle and assemble. It's been demonstrated that sixth graders are able to do it. This travel scooter will not have a piece that's more than 35 pounds. The wheel base will not be bigger than 42" long and 22" wide and some styles are slightly smaller. I doubt if these are available for rent, but there are many models of Pride scooters. I think you will be looking at the heaviest piece to be about 45 to 50 pounds and slighly bigger.

You can always get the name/brand of the scooter (from the rental place, etc) and do a search on it to see how it's broken down and sizes of the dismantled pieces and how much each piece weighs, etc. You can do the same for most car trunks. This takes a little work to do, but it would give you the most accurate info for what you want to know. The rental places for the car and scooter may have this info, if you ask.

If you are renting a scooter after you get the rental car, I would simply take the car to the scooter rental place and make sure it works for you. This is probably the simplest way to do it. I would have my trunk empty, if you go direct to the scooter rental. I don't know how convenient this is to do, but it's very safe this way. Usually, the rental place will demonstrate everything for you, too.

Although, it's more expensive you can rent scooters at the Disney parks and other places like SeaWorld, etc., too. Then, you don't have to have it in your car and you don't have to worry about putting it together or charging the battery.

That is a great idea to take the car to the scooter rental place. I will keep that in mind. My kids will be in the backseat, so no room there. Maybe I will get a good rate on a larger car last minute.
I have also thought about just renting from the parks. We don't plan on doing parks everyday all day. I also have a knee scooter that I will take, I use it while pushing with my good leg like a kid's scooter. I get my cast off in 11 days ( broken foot) so it's hard to know how much I will be able to do in a walking boot.

I rented a Nissan Sentra and had a Randy's mobilty scooter for up to 200 lbs fit no problem. We took the seat off, lay down the handle and left the batterys on,
I had help to lift into the trunk. There was a lot of room. In a small compact car I would go to a car lot and look to see. In my sons honda civic I am not sure with out taking off the batteries we could do it. Probably.

I just found a better deal with a premium car, so now I'll have that instead of the midsize. Now I don't have to worry about the trunk size.
