February questions

Hi. We are sort of set for a trip in February but have a few things left to organize and could use some advice from the experts. We’re staying offsite for the first time because early entry is gone. We’ll still be rope-dropping.

1. We (couple with adult son) have only two full days (Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21). Any suggestions for which park would likely be best to start at each day or will it really be a toss up with EE gone? We’ll have started in DL Thursday afternoon and done some must-do rides (Pirates!) and soaked in the atmosphere so we don’t need the magic of the DL entry first thing Friday. Any guesses (or informed opinions) on how busy those days will likely be?

2. I’ve been holding off buying tickets because I was hoping for a new Canadian resident discount. Does anyone have a sense of whether that’s likely in the next few weeks? I’m thinking now I should just buy the tickets and get the reservations set.

3. I missed the date for Blue Bayou and Trader Sam’s reservations so they’re full now, of course. I’m haunting the reservations page to grab a cancellation and that’s worked before so I’m hopeful. If I can’t get one, how are walkups lately for both locations? Is there a generally a best time of day for walkups?

4. We have three evenings but ideally four shows to see - WOC, Fantasmic, Paint the Night, and the Galaxy’s Edge fireworks. We’ll do the desert package for WOC and a dinner package for Fantasmic. It sounds like a package isn’t necessary for PTN, especially the later one. Would it help for scheduling to do a package for Galaxy’s Edge fireworks or is it just going to be impossible to fit that one in?

5. It looks like Rise will still be down when we’re there so we’re prepared for that. Grizzly too. Are there any indications yet when Monsters Inc will close? We’d love to have one last ride!

6. When I looked at park reservations and ticket purchase, there was an option for a dining card for 10% off. I’ve never heard of that before. Has anyone used it? Any problems?

Thanks so much for the help!

2. If no Canadian discounts have been announced as of yet, it is unlikely that there will be any. Your dates are at the end of Presidents week. So I would buy & make reservations sooner rather than later.

3. Trader Sam's no longer takes reservations. It is 100% walk up now.

5. No word on Monster's Closure as of now.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. I had missed that about Trader Sam’s, although I saw Oga’s doesn’t have reservations now.

Keep your eye on the five-day events calendar to see which entertainment is offered during your stay. You can't use the prior weekend as a guide because it is Presidents Day weekend and park hours might be different.

If everything is offered on both nights of your stay, you can easily see all four shows. Keep your eye on the times for Tapestry of Happiness. You might head to Small World after Fire of the Rising Moon (cut through Fantasyland) to watch Tapestry of Happiness and the late PTN parade.

1. Early WOC, possibly late PTN. I say "possibly" because you won't be the only one trying to dart out of DCA and into DL for the late show.
2. Fantasmic, Wondrous Journeys, late PTN
3. Shadows of Memory, Fire of the Rising Moon, late PTN. Package is not necessary for Fire of the Rising Moon.

Thanks! Seeing it set out like that is very helpful!

Remember, the early parade starts near Small World and ends on Main Street. The second parade goes in the opposite direction. If you are at the end of the parade route, you won't see the beginning of the parade until approximately 20 min after the start time. Heading towards the end of the parade route (ie. Small World for the 2nd parade) will buy you a little time if you are trying to watch it after another show.
