What size bed does your child have?

DS4 is in a queen (used to be in a full, but got moved to the guest room furniture when the baby came). DS2 is in a full (his toddler bed was recently converted to a full). DD is still in a crib, but the crib converts to a full. I am happy with the full size beds because I do intend to use them until they go off to college and i really think a twin is too small for a high schooler. IT's also nice because if we have guests, I can move the kids around and still give the guests at least a double bed.

And as a PP said, it's nice to have a bigger bed if one of the kids is sick and you need to lie down with them.

I'd say it depends on the size of the room. I grew up with a full and I loved it. It was great for sleepovers. It seems like they build the non-master bedrooms much smaller these days. I would like DD to have a full, but that wouldn't leave her much room to play in her room, so she has a twin. She has been in it since she a week after she turned 2 with no problems.

DD has a full. She sleeps all over the place, and when I was a kid, I fell out of bed pretty regularly. (If I sleep in a twin for some reason, I wake up multiple times in the night because I'm rolling off the edge.)

DD has a full w/ a twin trundle underneath. DS has a twin over full bunkbed. I will say that their rooms are very large (which we appreciate since literally their rooms in our last house were 5x8 and 6x8. Now they're around 12x14 and 12x16 so the twin looked really small. We have family that comes from overseas and stays for weeks at a time, so with the full beds it's a lot easier to accomodate adults or families (with the bunk or trundle). When the house gets really full, our kids just sleep on air mattresses in our room. So far, the most we've had has been 18; but that was just for a long weekend.

My son slept with me in my bed until he was 2 and a half. Then I bought him a twin sized bed that he still uses. He is 5 now. I plan to keep him in that bed for as long as it lasts, unless I have another son, then I would get a set of bunk beds. I don't think kids need anything bigger unless they need it once they are teenagers. Some kids need more space as they get bigger and older.
Another option is a futon. I will consider buying one of these when my son is a teenager, so him and his friends have a place to sit and watch TV, play video games, etc.

My 2 older kids went from crib, to toddler bed to queen. I bought bedroom sets hoping that they could keep them until adulthood.

My 21 month old is in a toddler bed. When she outgrows that, I will probably go for a queen also.

My DD (4) is in a twin bed. We could of fit bigger bed in her room, but the thought never even crossed my mind. She has a little tykes play house, and for christmas she is getting a wood three piece kitchen set to replace the small one she has now. So having a smaller bed gives her a lot of room for other things. I'm sure she wouldn't mind a bigger bed (she loves sleeping in ours) but she would really miss all her play room.

my son will have a full. he's in a convertible crib, that when he's old enough can convert to a toddler bed (using the crib mattress) and when that is too small for him, we'll get the full mattress.

but it all depends on if i have another baby (he's the 1st). he'll be moved from the crib/toddler bed (new baby would be in a basinette in my room then into the crib) and he would get our guest room's full bed. oh how i want to not have a guest room. *evil grin* :rolleyes1

Both of my girls moved to a full size bed after the crib. We wanted to be able to buy 1 bed to last them through high school.

They both have twins - they used to be bunkbeds but are separated into different rooms now. Dd25 has a queen that she bought herself - she's almost 6' tall and twin just wasn't working.

Dd4 has a full and dd7 has twin bunk beds. We actually downgraded her from full (hence dd4 has full) because there is more room in her bedroom with the twin bunk beds.

I had a double bed as a child and it still drives me batty that even now in a king, I only get the equivalent of a twin in terms of bed space!

Bought twin beds for my kids once they were too big for their cribs. Once we move, I'll probably get DS a full size bed. He's almost 6ft tall & needs a little more room.

Trust me, get the FULL size bed after the crib! It will save you from having to buy another bed later. We bought both dd's cute little twin sleigh beds, but when they turned about 11 they really needed bigger beds. Then, we needed new beds, frames, mattresses and box springs, new sheets, new comforter/duvets!!! Are you catching the $$$$$$$$$$ here...:goodvibes

my 5yo has a toddler bed. she's been telling me its getting too small for her. Unfortunately its the only thing that will fit in our room

We had that problem with DS's room when he was that age. We ended up getting him a loft bed, so that his dresser and desk could go under his bed.

My older two are both in twin beds. DH and I both had twins until we lived together and even then only had a full. It never occurred to me to take away play space with a larger bed.

I agree about the play space.

I have twin beds for my children because they want so much else in their rooms, the bed would be too large.

For the record, they do not have tvs, but music stuff etc.

DD has a twin. Its fine, WHEN SHE sleeps in it! lol. She nursed for the first 1 1/2...and we were also living with family so she always slept with us. It was H-E double Hockey sticks to get her into her own bed.. (we're in an apt now while we save $$ for a house). The twin gives us much more room for her toys.

I would have liked to have a full or queen for guests but that'll come later. I'm thinking about investing in a sleeper sofa for when we have guests.

All of my children have twin size beds. I also had a twin size bed until I was married....but then I'm only 5'5. They make XL twins as well....which is what my oldest son will be moving in to in his new room.

My son who is 10 and my 5 year old daughter both have queen size beds, and my 7 year old has a twin day bed with a trundle. It sort of all came about from hand-me down situations, but it is great for when we have guests. Just an aside, my 7 year old often sleeps with the 10 year old, because the older one doesn't like to sleep alone!

We also have a queen, so it is great to be able to pass around the sheets.
