Yeah, they definitely did some weirder stuff on their first couple of albums. I do like how their sound evolves over the course of their run. I enjoy Only a Lad too, but Dead Man's Party is really the definitive album. Ever hear SO-LO, Danny's "solo" album that was really just him and the band? That one's a bit of a lost gem, but is quite good to. Some songs were covered on Alive - Grattitude and It Only Makes Me Laugh.
Gratitude was on the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. That’s how I have it.

Boi-ngo had a special release as a box set of 5 7” 45s. I wish I'd bought it when it was new.

They had a great sound and I have always liked the "2 girls and 2 guys" Band "dynamic".(ABBA,The Mamas and the Papas,etc.).My pick for a lot of people may sound like a one hit wonder, but they did get their own tv show for a short while. Starland Vocal Band. Most people only know them for Afternoon Delight, but they had some other wonderful songs on that album as well. My particular favorite is an a cappella song called American Tune. In an age where so many singers get a little “help” with their voices, these four could really sing.
That song is one of my favorites! Also, Valley Girl is one of my top movies. It's a crime that they are remaking it.These guys even had John Hughes putting them on a soundtrack.
Wonder what went wrong here.
That's Paul Carrack (aka "The Man with the Golden Voice") on lead vocals. I think Tempted and Black Coffee in Bed had Elvis Costello singing backup.
And come to think of it, Elvis Costello is extremely influential but he's never really had that much chart success in the US.
They actually had nine albums IIRC including a Christmas album. But they are always put on the one hit wonders list like they only had one song. They had a great sound and I have always liked the "2 girls and 2 guys" Band "dynamic".(ABBA,The Mamas and the Papas,etc.).
Very "interesting" subject matter for their hit single as well!lol![]()
I have to go with The Stompers. Legendary Boston band who did chart with this song in 1983. Love love love their music and energy! They are still at it today too, just the absolute best!
Me too. Be sure and watch the "Nightmare Before Christmas" episode of "Prop Culture" on Disney+. They spend quite a bit of time with Danny Elfman - and it explains a lot of why Oingo Boingo is no longer a thing.Pulling Mussels, Hourglass...Squeeze is GREAT!
My favorite band ever is Oingo Boingo with Danny Elfman - I don't know how big they ever were, but it seems like they weren't too huge, with only a few soundtrack hits. They are THE BEST!
Oooohh - sorry, gonna disagree - IMHO, Dead Man's Party was Oingo Boingo past their prime.Just to give people a taste of one of their best songs:

Did you know, Oingo Boingo won the original pilot episode of the Gong Show? Jayne P. Morgan flashed her breasts during the closing credits and the censors didn't catch it too. Loved that show - good times.
Southside Johny, I seen him so many times in concert, loved his stuff here is a couple of his songs (he was big in New Jersey and Northren Ohio
They still sell out large arenas, at least pre-Covid. Quite a few hits and huge following so I think they did pretty well. My favorite BNL song will always be Brian Wilson.
I'm still a big Southside Johnny fan! But growing up in Cleveland in the '70's and '80's, there was no group bigger than Michael Stanley Band. Not much on Youtube of them. Saw them at Blossom in the summer, the Coliseum New Year's Eve, etc.Southside Johny, I seen him so many times in concert, loved his stuff here is a couple of his songs (he was big in New Jersey and Northren Ohio
