What side of ship is better to book?

Looking at deck 9 with a verandah. Have only had virtual porthole before on this ship. Which side is better as far as Nassau and CC? We'll probably stay onboard Nassau day, but if weather is good we'll be on CC most of the time there.

Do people prefer to watch fireworks from their verandah or go up on deck? What side do those go off on?

Thanks so much!

Castaway Cay -- usually starboard has the better view. Occasionally (rarely) the ships will pull straight into port instead of backing in, in which case the port side would face the lagoon.

We watch fireworks from the verandah because I'm allergic to the huge crowds up on deck. You should be able to see them from either side, unless you get a notice in your stateroom not to use the verandah during the show. We've never gotten that notice, but others here on the DIS have.

Starboard has the better view of CC. They ask that you don't attempt to view the fireworks from your verandah's but I have done it. We had a good view of the fireworks on the forward end of the starboard side.

Side really doesn't make much difference. Disney usually backs in to Nassau, so for that port, I'd recommend port (left) side. They can pull in either way to Castaway, depending on what needs to be done on the hull. If they pull in head first, you'll be facing the beach. If they back in, you will be facing the dock. If your veranda is on the side where they shoot off the fireworks, you'll get a notice in your cabin not to use your balcony during the fireworks.

I actually like the port side - I love looking at the natural side of CC - plus if you have a verandah you can go out and watch the choreography of the ropes being undone and then wave to the CC-based CMs who wave the ship off. :)

We loved our Verandah room 9554 on the Dream. This room is starboard, and I made sure to get a room on the same side for our next cruise.

Also as a note at Nassau there are usually other ships docked on either side of you. There is a good chance that you won't really have a good view on either side.

We had starboard side and my DS wants port side next time. His reasoning was that he was only able to see the moon from our room on 1 night (going down). He loved laying in bed and looking at the moon before falling asleep.

Thanks! Does it matter for Nassau?
Depends on how many ships are in port with you... The ship normally backs into her berth, so the port side would face the town and the starboard side would face the sea, but if there other ships in port (especially if its a "full house"), your only view may be of the pier and/or the ship next to you.

The ships usually back into Castaway Cay, so starboard overlooks the lagoon and the beach and port overlooks the pier and undeveloped island areas.

We like the righ (starboard) t side because
1) After the sailaway party, we like to have cocktail and sit on our veranda as we wave bye bye to people at the beaches and fishlips and while unpacking and as we sail away, we like to see the sun set over the receding florida coast.
2) Castaway cay (ship usually backs in).

Yikes - I am a total cruise newbie - how do you know what side is port side and what side is starboard? We are staying in room 7574 on Disney Magic.

If you are standing on the ship facing the bow (the front), starboard is right, port is left. For the purposes of direction, the front of the ship is forward, the back of the ship is aft, the middle of the ship is mid-ship. Using deck 7 as an example, cabins numbered 75XX or 76XX are starboard side, 70XX or 71XX are port side. The 7 in the stateroom number is the deck. The numbering convention is the same on all decks.

If I book a cabin on deck 6 above the Oceaneer Club, that would be noisy, wouldn't it?

Our cabin on the Fantasy was deck 8, starboard. We had a magnificent view of the fireworks. They seemed to be shooting them off that side as well, so I don't see how you could see much from a balcony on the port side.

Considering you are not supposed to be on you verandah during fireworks, that should be a moot point.
