I work at a lesser local attraction and all employees had to attend a session when a NOAA weather person gave a ttalk about storms. Following that our local procedure was changed and now any time tunder is heard - no matter how distant - ir lightening seen all outside 'attractions' stop: pools emptied, kayaks told to turn around if not yet 1/2 way, train can't start a run, people are brought down from the zip-line. Nothing can restart until there has been nothing heard/seen for 30 minutes . . . it can be very frustrating when you can see that the clouds are far away but we can hear thunder in the distance.... But that NOAA person really impressed management with their pictures ... and just a few days later a person near the beach WAS hit by a bolt that "came from nowhere"
I've been mid-show at SW when lightening appeared - the show was stopped and everyone asked to leave the outdoor theater. It's Florida - what ya gonna do?
