My husband received a $2000 gift certificate to a travel company. We are already planning to go to WDW this fall for 10 days (haven't made ressies yet though). We want to stay onsite, probably at a home away from home resort (probably Beach club villas). Would it be cheaper for us to use book through this travel company with the $2000 discount, or try and rent the points through a DVC member? I don't know too much about renting points, so I don't know if it's even feasible to rent that many points from someone, but thought I'd ask anyway!

Thanks!

I don't really know the answer to your question, but CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Go to the Disney Vacation Club Board -- I found out so much about renting points from all the very very helpful people there! They can answer all your questions! I am in the process of renting points to stay at the Beach Club Villas for 5 nights. It will cost me 700.00, as opposed to 1600.00 if I had booked through Disney.

Have fun!!

Pam

You have received $2000 towards a trip, why would you want to spend any of your own money if you don't have to. We went last sept 26-oct 5th and it would have cost us approx $2300 for the beachclub villas. Use the calculator and figure out the cost of the points and decide if it is important enough to spend all your own money. If not goe through the travel agent, you can still get the villas, but it will cost a little more ( usually @ 390-425 during val/reg season). You might find that you would spend the same either way, then I would save the certificate and use the points.

We just won a trip from my husbands employer. We are going to the CSR. We have always stayed in a deluxe before so I was wary of the moderate, but I figured I wasn't having to pay for anything so I took the moderate and figure any Disney resort is a good disney resort.

I think, if my calculations are correct, that it would cost $7050 to stay at BCV for the amount of time we want to stay (10 days). Then minus the $2000 and it comes to $5050. If we rented the points, at $10 a point for 343 points (which is what the calculator said it would be), it comes to $3430......

So I guess we should rent the points (if possible). Am I figuring this out correctly?

If you are looking at spending that amount, you might consider going ahead and purchasing a DVC contract at Beach Club Villas. It would depend on how often you plan to go to WDW and if you would use points on other vacations.
