OK, everyone was so much help with ideas for our DD, I thought I would ask about my husband. We do not do gifts for birthdays but I like to have some things under the tree for him to open. He is 50. He is a windsurfer but he has been doing it for years and buys what he needs. there are no shops here to browse in either. We are at the age where if we want something we generally just get it. It makes it hard. Any ideas are welcome!!! (He even stopped drinking coffee except occasionally so my annual Starbucks card does not work this year)
Thanks. Jean

You can always buy new clothes of any kind. How about restaurant gift cards, and then you get the benefit of the gift too. :)

Does he have desk at work? Maybe a little picture frame with a pic of your DD. I also like silly gifts, like those sleeppants in a can and funny men's socks. Maybe a new wallet? A set of cologne? Something for his car? A travel mug?

Think small and usefull

My DH is 52, he is getting new gold toe socks, new ear muffs (to wear when he snow plows our driveway - got to keep him warm), a Starbucks music CD, and a Starbucks coffee mug.

Yes, my DH has cut back on his coffee drinking too, but he does decaf tea now and even some hot chocolate.

Our kids get him little goofy gifts like pens and flashlights (which no one can find when you need one :rotfl: )

Does he like any sports teams? You could get him a jersey or sweatshirt or something. Last year MIL got DH an atomic clock, it tells the time, temp. and it has a receiver you put outside so it tells the outside temp, too. We never would've bought one for ourselves, but it's pretty nice.

Eddie Bauer has a nice car emergency kit. They also have a weather center that tells what the weather is outside.

Does he need any tools? A nice flashlight.

Is there anything specific the two of you like to do together? DH and I have kids and no sitter so for our "date" time we like to snuggle up on the couch after they go to bed and watch a movie so I got him a new dvd for his stocking.

My Dh fortunately loves electronics. He's been using my Ipod, so I may get him either a Classic or Nano for him. (He's had three Ipods before!)

He needs a new phone but doesn't want one with a full keyboard or an Iphone.

His laptop is dying-- but that is too much for a Christmas present.

He works from home, so no dress clothes are needed.

Depends what he is interested in. My husband loves sports and tv. We already have Chargers season tickets that he doesn't get to use often because he is never off work when they play. He gets them mostly for my son and me. I know my husband would love some Lakers tickets but I never know his schedule and they werent up for sale when I did my christmas shopping. I have outfitted him in every kind of jersey and jacket there is. The other thing I got him that he has really loved is his XM radio. He loves the sports talk and foxnews on there. This year I got him a sony blu ray player. I bought and wrapped over the summer so when they dropped in price I didn't return it to costco and get the cheaper one. I still have time to do that but probably won't. I may pick up the dark knight for him. What I got myself this year was a wireless printer which would also make a good gift if your DH has a laptop. I and the whole family are going to love printing from our laptops anywhere in the house. I also got my son 2 paintball guns one for him one for dad for good grades and my DH is looking forward to doing that with my son. Those are just some of the ideas my DH likes, not sure what your DH is into. I know my husband wouldn't of sprung the money on the blu ray player himself so this is going to be a nice gift for him this year.

This year I am getting SO a mega CD Changer. It will hold 400, plus can be daisy chained to an additional unit to increase the size. He probably has more than 400 CDs, so I will see once X-mas has come and gone and we have loaded the CDs into the changer. I am doing this somewhat selfishly...I am tired of CD cases being all over the place! I figure we will load all of the CDs and then pack up the cases (because I know he will not let me throw them out) into a bin for storage. Plus, last year I got him a 5 disk DVD changer to upgrade the 5 disk CD and older DVD we had, but it does not autoplay the next CD which he hates.

By the way, if it was me, I would just convert all of the old CDs and store them digitally, but that would not fly with SO as he won't part with the CDs, plus he would constantly complain about the loss of audio quality.

WOW What amazing ideas. Hey I would love Lakers tickets too. I am the sports fan in the family. But alas we live just left of no where and there are no pro teams here.

I think he would enjoy the xm radio. I know nothing about those. Are there ones you can use in the car and in the house? Do you subscribe to them? Where should I look for one and what are the important features?

I like the Atomic clock idea with the temp features. Where would i get one of those?

Cyber shopping is best for me as our selection of stores locally is limited

(OK can you tell I hate to shop since I have no idea where to get things)

I agreed to go to the Mall with DH because he needs new pants. We have to buy them in the next two days because we leave on our cruise on Thursday and he needs them for the cruise.

Thanks for all the help. I love some of the little ideas too. (just no more flashlights, we could light up the whole neighborhood. LOL)

My wife always had a good threat. She would tell me that unless I gave her some ideas of what I wanted, and did not go out and buy it for myself, she would buy me a tuxedo and get a list of places I would take her to where I would have to wear it. But we lived in the Washington DC area, where there are lots of formal events.

I got DH a small digital photo frame for his desk at work. I will load it with pictures of the kids.

I also got him a North Face Jacket, some video games, lounge pants, Scrabble Upwords and a few other things.

Last year I went a little overboard with him so I am keeping it low this year. Last year he got:

A Large (not sure of the size) flat panel TV, an exercise bike, a HD DVD player/recorder, a subscription to Netflix, a heart monitor watch (for when he is using the bike) and a few other things. He is normally very hard to buy for but last year I had so many ideas, I just could not stop myself. :rotfl:

I love this. For the last 17 years I have been wondering why he does not have a tux. When we were dating I lived in DC and he in NY, I would always wonder how he managed with out one, I had a half dozen gowns....

Now in New Mexico who needs one but still I think that is a great idea. Maybe tickets to the Met to go with it. I loving this.

Maybe a small HD tv for the bedroom, he loves the news shows. The tv we have in there is about 12 years old. Of course I know nothing about TVs either. Any help with these??

I'm appreciating all the ideas too. My husband is so hard to shop for, and I won't think about buying him fishing gear (his favorite), since it probably wouldn't be right anyway and he would just exchange it. Acutally, I learned that lesson from my mom who could never buy the right power tools for my dad. Finally, she just started giving him "something to open" on the premise that he would go get what he wanted.

I would rather just give something he wants, so this year, so far all I have is a Netflix subscription. I'm condidering a lunchbox for him since he just noticed that we use a lot of paper bags for his lunch and suddenly he feels bad about it. Anything else, I'm kind of at a loss for. But he's got the next three days off and that will probably involve some window shopping, so hopefully that will help.

Keep the ideas coming!

My mom always said everyone should get a toy for Christmas--no matter how old you are. Well my DH is just a big kid at 36 and he's getting legos for Christmas :) Actually I think I will score major points for this one. I even got him the motors and remote control accessories from lego to make his set "come to life". He'll never expect it, but he'll absolutely love it. I can't wait to see his face on Christmas morning.

I got DH a Sirius radio 2 years ago. My Honda came with XM last year. Subscriptions have changed since the merge. DH called last week. He can switch his Sirius radio to XM, but I can't switch my XM to Sirius. So he is going to jump to XM and we will save a bit as we will have 2 with them. I think the second subscription is $6.95 a month instead of $12.95. I do not even know if they are still sold with the logo on them, but this would be something to keep in mind_Sirius can subscribe to either.

LCD TV's: We have 2 Sony Bravia HD LCD TV's. Our bedroom is a 32" which is perfect in there. Family room is 40". I would go with Sony or Samsung for LCD's. You will need to subscribe to digital and HD to enjoy what they offer if you don't have this already. As far as 720 or 1080 resolution, on a small TV you are not going to see a difference at all.

This may sound odd...but it might be a good way for him to have fun with the DD. I just bought a set of mini marshmallow shooters to play with with the kids. Buy dot com had a set of 2 for 14.99 with free shipping a week ago...they might still have them. It's a cheap, simple gift that will be fun to play with and won't make a mess or hurt anyone :)....and you wont lose any parts...all you do is buy another bag of mini marshmallows :thumbsup2

Does your DH like to read? You could always get a subscription to his favorite magazine( DH is getting Reader's Digest this year) or even a GC to one of the bookstores in your area.

I also bought DH a foot spa. He works such long hours and spends a lot of time on his feet and by the end of the day he is so tired and sore. I figured something like this would be nice and relaxing.

When I picked it up there were a ton of different pampering gifts there. Massage pads that you put in your favorite chair, neck massagers, etc etc. My father used to love gifts like that. Sitting all day in an office was just as tiring to my Dad as DH being on his feet. Hope this helps!

what about a handmade custom wood or acrylic pen? There is a site creativependesign.com and they have some really unique and beautiful pens. I got a pen for my husband from there. They have eveything from Bethlehem olive wood to rattlesnke pens.
