What should I do with all my scrapping magazines?

I have WAAAAAY too many scrapping magazines. But I do find lots of inspiration in them.... even the older ones. But I'm tired of storing them all and I am looking for a way to keep just the important stuff. Should I take the magazines apart and only keep the pages I want? I have been thinking about doing that for a while, but am hesitating. I hate cutting up magazines.

What I am thinking of doing is just cut out the pages/layouts that I find helpful and inspiring and put them in a notebook.... sorted by ??? (Layouts, borders, journaling, seasons, themes). Should I go ahead and do this? Has anyone else done it? I would donate the remainder of the magazine to my DS's class to use for projects.

Let me know if you have any great ideas!................P

I think your idea sounds like a great one as far as cutting out the pages you like and sorting by topic. I have got to do the same thing, I find I'm not going through mine as much because I hate having to keep flipping through them. I look forward to hearing other ideas too.

I redraw the layout in a sketch book. I sort mine by the number of pictures in each layout. Sometimes I will copy the page and shrink it to fit better in my sketchbook too.
I'm a visual learner so seeing the page complete helps a lot.

I have a large loose leaf binder, divided by events (bdays, babies, weddings) with any ideas I get from any magazine, online, etc. in it. Disney is in a loose leaf binder of its own!;)

Good ideas: thanks pjlla for starting this thread. I have tons of magazines I am afraid to throw out!

I do this for cookery magazines too! But I am a bit behind!
The idea is I pull out the recipes I want, put them in a concertina file than, once I've cooked them once, write them up in my recipe book. Trouble is, its easier to print them out from the internet then I lose them. Plus my concertine file is nearly full, and so is my recipe book! I have (in the planning stage) a project to make recipe books for my boys but the binders are CM 7" ones and I'm a bit put off by all the typing involved. I don't mind adding journallin by hand but the whole recipe would be way to much, as well as hard to read  Any suggestions?

I have been wondering the same thing.

My ideas so far are:

Cut the page out that has the LO I like, store it in a folder in a page protector by theme

or

Cut out the LO that I like and adhere it to cs then into a pp and into the binder

I haven't done any of this yet but I am drowning in magazines but never look through them now because there are so many.

I also want to have a book that just has techniques in it.

Well.... I got started when I had free time at work the other day. I had no trouble cutting up my Papercuts magazines and a few other strays, but it felt funny to cut up a Creating Keepsakes. But it was amazing how little I actually felt compelled to keep from each magazine. Some I just took one page or even just a half a page. I gave the magazines to someone at school who scraps (with the warning that I had torn some stuff out) and she will pass them on to my DS's class when she is done with them. I feel good knowing that they will not just go to the dump.

As an aside, I know it will be helpful to the elementary teachers to have magazines to use (for collages and stuff) where they don't have to worry about the content. If you look closely at even the most "innocent" of magazines (such as Good Housekeeping), there is usually inappropriate stuff in there somewhere (ads for lotion with scantily clad women, the ads for "marital aids" in the far back, etc). They would be hard pressed to find anything even remotely offensive in a scrapping magazine!!

I am trimming the article and/or layout that I cut out, adhering it to cardstock, which I will place in a (cheap) page protector in a binder, sorted by type (L/O ideas, seasons, holidays, themes, borders, journaling, tags, etc). I actually already have a layout binder with sketches, as well as layouts I have cut from magazines. It is sorted by # of pictures in the layout.

This will take me a while, as I am going through each magazine page by page, but it gives me something to do while I wait for DD at swim team practice. HTH someone!...........P

Great ideas! I've recently started using post-it flags to flag LOs I want to use, but eventually I will need to pare down the magazines. Thanks!
