Taking my 17 month old baby to the parks for the first time and trying to decide what should be her first ride. I currently have Epcot for our arrival day since we are arriving late in the afternoon. Are there any good rides there for a first ride? We could also just go in there to get something to eat and then hop over to magic kingdom since we are staying at bay lake tower it’ll be easier to get to. If we do that what would you recommend for a first ride at MK?

Have fun-- our daughter was ~16 months when we took her first. We started at Animal Kingdom so her first ride was Navi. I think at Epcot her first might have been the Nemo ride. It was either that or Frozen (we had PhotoPass so we kept the ride picture from that-- always cracks me up to see her expression on the ride). First one we did with her at MK was Little Mermaid.

She loves the movie frozen but idk how she’d handle the drop lol
Nemo or Figment
i was thinking Nemo would be good since you’re just sitting in the shell

I'm going against the grain, NOT DUMBO. My 20 month old tried to get out of the elephant midflight, it terrified her....

I'd pick the carousel at MK.
Yikes that’s not good. Does your baby like swings? I’m wondering if that ride is similar to the feeling with flying through the air

Dumbo is good at this age for a first ride because it’s not overstimulating or dark. And you can control if it goes up or stays low if they’re afraid of the height.

Dumbo is a cute ride, I’ve actually never been on it lol. But my baby likes swings so I think she’d like the flying motion

We took my then 5 month old grand daughter back in Sept. and her first ride in Epcot was the Mexico ride. She loves cartoons so all the colors and cartoons and music was great, she loved it. Turns out her favorite ride in all the parks was Figment (it was her daddy's too when he was little). I think her first ride in MK was Pirates. We were limited since she was a baby and could only ride the rides we could hold her in our laps for. She loved CoP, the music and all the moving things fascinated her. At AK, safari, she loved the animals. At HS (this was a huge mistake) it was MMRR. The little drop was a bit much and the dancing scene really threw her around even being on her Daddy's lap and with the lap bar holding them both. It was also a little too busy and had too much going on. I think she got to ride the most at Epcot, she got Mexico, Figment (twice) LWTL (she also loved that) and we walked through the seas for her to see all the fishes. We ended up doing a lot of child swap with Mama and Daddy riding and then me and Daddy or just me sitting out and not riding a few rides because I go a lot so didn't mind.

At Epcot I would do Nemo or figment. Otherwise I would do dumbo or tea cups (without spinning)

At Epcot Nemo would be a great choice. Also good ideas: Figment, Living with the Land, Gran Fiesta Tour or Frozen.

The rides that have lap bars, will she have to sit on the seat next to us or can we hold her? She’s little so i feel like she wouldn’t be able to see if she was sitting on the bench. I’m assuming I hold her? When do babies stop being lap babies?

We held our son on our laps until we felt comfortable having him sit on his own between us. Now we just put an arm around him (he’s almost 2)

We had our little ones sit on our laps when they were that young. It's more size than age to determine them sitting on their own. We would generally go on a ride for her/him to sit between us.
