What Shoes to Wear at WDW???

I have a hard time finding comfortable shoes. Today I bought a pair of Sketchers (slip on sandals) at Soft Mocs they had really comforable and cushy soles so I thought that these would be great to wear at WDW. Though the bottom was comfy, I got blisters on top of my foot after a few hours of wearing them. Now I know this is only the first time wearing them but I am wondering if these are the right shoes for Disney.

Can anyone suggest what shoes to wear (and wear to purchase them--I live just outside T.O. in Whitby) for my family: myself, DH, and DD's ages 7, 5 1/2 (my younger DD has slightly bigger feet than her sister (size 1) & size 1 1/2)?? I 'd like to buy them now (seems pickings are getting quite slim) and break them in before our trip in Aug (21-30 at POFQ).

I have read about Tevas and Crocs but have no idea what they are or where to get them. When I asked at the mall the today the salesgirl looked at me like I was nuts.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!! :cool1:  :bounce:

I usually alternate shoes at WDW so my feet aren't rubbed in the same spots every day. I usually bring new balance runners with moisture free socks from the Running room, birkenstock sandals and crocs. You can buy the imitation crocs right now at Payless for 7.99.I have both the fake and the real mccoy and there isn't much difference. Hth, Jen

I wear my runners not cross trainers or sandals but actual lightweight runners a nice cushy pair of Nike Air max that I have for the parks. Also make sure they are of a light colour they don't attract the heat as badly.

i perfer running sneakers and buy them about 60 days in advance so my feet are used to the.also i buy dr shouls gel soles (i'n not sure if that's the right name for them) basiclly a gel type thing you put inside the sneaker from dr shouls.it does work and help.

We wear good runners and socks. We change socks during the day when we go back to the room to rest.Be sure to bring an extra pair. We got our runners soaked during a downpour at AK and had to buy new shoes in Orlando !

We will be at POFQ the same time as you! I wore Birkenstocks last August the entire time and my daughter wore sandals (she's 8). This year we both have Tevas and they are really comfortable so we are planning on wearing them. I know a lot of people do wear runners but it is just too hot for me to put on socks and runners! We got wet quite a bit (especially on Kali River Rapids) and with the sandals, they just dried quite quickly.
We found our Tevas at North by Northwest in London.
We were just in Whitby this weekend for a wedding. Good luck with your shoe hunt! :flower:

it is just too hot for me to put on socks and runners!

::yes:: It's been two years since I've been in the summer, and that is what I was thinking. I'll miss my runners and the orthotics in them, but I remember the rainstorms, so I'll be wearing my Nike ACG's, I think for the most part. I'll have my runners for the evenings. . . .when it cools down. :rotfl:

I have a pair of the mules from skechers too. They are the most comfortable shoes I own. I did however get blisters on the top of my feet from them when I first got them. I just wear a pair of ankle socks ( I got the ones with the breathable tops from Old Navy) with them and Im fine. I love how they have elastic laces and strech out as you walk, very very comfortable.

But everyones feet are diffrent. :flower:

I got caught up in the "Crocs" thread before my April trip in the Spring. It's all true, they work...for me anyway. I have the Cayman version and had to order from US (a little pricey that way). Both my girlfriend and myself bought the Airwalk "Birk" version from Payless and they work really well too. She's a hairstylist on her feet all day. They are cheap right now at $12.00 CAD. You don't worry if they get wet and they are perfect for drying quickly. I can't tell you why so much but it's the material. Almost like hard memory foam and you don't have to use your toes to keep them on (like a flip flop) so I think that helps in the comfort dept. too.
My suggestions

Thanks everyone. I think I'll check out Payless first (just to be economical). If they are sold out where would you buy Tevas? I also think that my feet would be too hot in runners. My feet get hot in them in this ON heat just walking from the car to gym LOL. :Pinkbounc

I saw Crocs at Roots recently but I don't think they were on sale.

I usually wear a combination of broken in sneakers and sport sandals for the first two days. Then I switch to flip flops once my feet get used to all the walking. It's better to bring a few pairs of shoes so your feet aren't always being rubbed in the same place.

I wore my pink converse runners on my last trip without a problem! My better half bought them for me in Hamilton for around $40 (I know - pricey, but I love them!!!)

When going out for dinner or shows, I changed to something with a heel, depending on where we were heading. Around the pool area and water parks - flip flops!

We go on the off season so the heat is not as hot. We both wear New Balance Sneakers...Love them.

:cool1:

I do not wear sneakers. I like wearing comfortable and stylish sandals - I usually bring 4 or 5 pairs during a 10 day trip and alternate each day, to insure no blisters.

Sorry but I just can't handle any type of sandal when lots of walking is involved!

I always wear comfortable sneakers (meaning good support for my arches) and ankles socks.

Poured Gold Bond Medicated powder in socks before putting shoes on and this helped - no burning sensation from walking all day.

I asked about no name Crocs at Payless in the Pickering town centre and the sales lady had no idea what I was talking about. They are also not available at the Oshawa Centre Payless ( at least they were not there last week).
I saw them at the Roots store in Scarborough Town Centre for $39.99, also saw them at the Roots store Pickering town centre for $29.99 - sidewalk sale.
I think Sportmart has no name ones for $19.99.
Good luck in your search and hope you have a great trip.

I think the Crocs ones are a little ugly. I like the Nile model ones but they are not available in Canada.

Clarks! Buy them at Soft Mocs or the Clarks outlet. They have some really nice ones now in the Indigo line.

I am going to retire a pair I have worn for 10 years and about 500 days at WDW. They have survived floods and hurricanes. The sueded footbed keeps your feet cool, and one can stand for hours in them. I've never had a blister. My favourite pair is backless.

As a nurse and on my feet for long stretches I like my Nike airs. New Balance is good too. , but I have orthotics which help a lot. I have read on another thread to use spray deoderant on your feet in the morning. I have never tried this. Has anyone out there tried this? If so what is the best deoderant to use?

You have to use spray deodorant for it to work. We used Arrid XX-dry. We did not get blisters but when we felt a hot spot after a few days we did put on a small piece of Moleskin.

Happy feet=Happy DISER :rotfl:
