Hello :wave2:

It's my Birthday on Sat, and me and DH, and my parents are off to London for the day.

We aren't going to see a show as money is a bit tight after Xmas (we normally go to a show as my B-day pressie), so what can we do....???

We have already done London Eye, and don't fancy Art galleries.
Not going shopping either as DH and Dad aren't really into that.

I would probably just do the sights and take some nice photos, then go for a nice meal somewhere

:cheer2: I hope you have a great day and birthday :) :cheer2:

Gotta love eating at Planet Hollywood, something you might be able to do is "Open Tower Bridge", I won this prize when i was very young and Im only one of the few that ever opened it ( not being staff ), it was so long ago im sure they have tours now or you can pay to open it.... I will try find out! - But it was an amazing experiance.

The Sealife Centre at County Hall is good or sit and watch the street performers in Covent Garden.

I think that some of museums are free entry if there was one that interested everyone

What about the Jack the Ripper tour. It is a walking tour, done at night. I did this when I went on a school trip to London a few years ago - it was great and I don't think it costs that much. The other thing you could do, which DH and I used to do when we lived just 40 miles from London, is turn up at one of the theatres on the day and see if they have any of the £10 tickets that they sometimes sell off if there are unsold seats. These tickets usually have restricted views but you still get to see a show. We have done this a couple of times and it worked out really well - got to see both Mama Mia and Blood Brothers for a tenner each time :teeth:

Personally, I could spend all day at the Natural History Museum - and not far from Harrods either :goodvibes

Thanks, I think we are going to go up 'Monument' - 311 steps I think, which is either in, or near the street where the great fire of london started (pudding lane), maybe an hour boat trip on the thames, Natural History Museum, and maybe Westminster Abbey or St Pauls Cathedral.

Then, Planet H or Rainforest Cafe for din dins.

Can't wait.

I love my Birthday (although it's rubbishly timed - straight after Xmas and New Year), but normally I am ill with a cold or flu or something, but this year I am determined not to be ill!

I know exactly what you mean Karen, I hate having my birthday so close to Christmas, people usually tend to forget then remember next week, when I was younger my Christmas/Birthday present was combined into one and then of course you have to wait nearly a year for Christmas . I wish I had been born in the Summer. :)

It sounds like your going to have a fab day on Saturday, have fun :)

Hi Tink, me and my DD are off to London this weekend too (might see you there!!) and I got a fantastic bargain yesterday. I, like you, enjoy seeing a show but really didn't think we could afford it. However, I bought tickets off www.lastminute.com for lunch at Uno's restauant followed by Saturday Night Fever at 3pm - all for £19.95 ( you can pay that for a meal in it's own) so I'm very pleased. Whatever you decide to do have a great birthday!!

Sounds lovely Sue.
How old is DD?

Sat Night Fever is a fab show.

She's 14 going on forty!! We're having a girly weekend doing a show and shopping on Sunday. Also thinking about the Jack the Ripper tour now having read what Joh said earlier.

there are some great deals on tickets to be had for shows...

Tkts booth will have virtually everything in london for half price... or there are a ton of other places to look like www.whatsonstage.com and last minute.com and londontheatreclub.com

Mind you.. im crazy about theatre, so a trip to London would not be complete without a theatre visit and a trip to "dress circle" the musical theatre shop... HEAVENLY!

If you do it, I hope you have a great time. I was about 14/15 when we went and it was fantastic - there was a big crowd of us but, ina way, I think that probably only served to detract slightly fromt he spookiness of it :)

I don't think we will have time to do this tour this Sat but it does good.
Where is it?
Do you need to book in advance?
What time was it?

Thanks

Hi Tink

This is the company we used when we went. There are walks at various times but the one we did was at night and it was definitely spooky doing it in the dark.

ETA that the tour for this Saturday is showing as fully booked but, if you did have time or wanted to do it, there are other tour companies that do similar tours.

Thanks for the link Joh. This looks really good, I have saved the link to my favourites for use in the future.

Thanks - it looks really creepy, esp the bit at the end where they un mask the ripper in an old victorian building just with 1 single light between everyone.
I'm kind of glad this sat is already full - at least I have an excuse not to go now! :rotfl:

I'm a bit of a chicken with stuff like this.
