Huricanes, Tornados or Earthquakes

Huricanes I have great respect for, Tornados spawned by Hurricanes scare me the most...No warning...No basements here in Florida...(sorry long post)

your being to hard on yourself, it wasnt that long :p

Definitely tornadoes. Hurricanes are very scary, and after living in Charleston, SC when Hugo hit, I understand the horrible devestation they can cause. Sometimes, as we just found out with Charlie, they can even hit where they're not expected and surprise us by strengthening. But even so, tornadoes scare me more because they're so unpredictable and you have very little chance (if any at all) to get out of their way. I've never lived where earthquakes are a common threat so I guess that's why they don't scare me as much.

I must agree with everyone. I was raised in Louisiana and lived many years in Florida. The only good thing about hurricanes (I know that sounds weird) is that we now can track them from so far out so we know when they are coming, although they often change course. If you need to evacuate it is a pain but you do it. Earthquakes give no warning, but it seems that most have been mild to moderate ( I know the BIG ONE will come one day though!) Now I live where we have tornadoes. We can be having a mild thunderstorm and all of the sudden the siren blows, however, we do have a nice basement to go into, although a couple of times this has happened when the kids were at school and I was nervous. If you lived in the deep south, no basements, a tornado would be AWFUL!!!!

I've never lived anywhere where tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes are an issue (I live in England) but I think tornadoes would scare me the most :scared:

The Wizard of Ozz made everyone afraid of Tornadoes and flying monkeys

My oldest DD13 wants to dress up as one of those monkeys when we go to MHSSHP and scare little kids.....ooooohhhhhh it scares me just thinking about those creepy monkeys!

My father was in the Navy, so at 37 yrs. old I have lived through all three. They all scare me.

LOL Jason! No doubt the wicked witch of the West comes into play when I think of tornados.

I thought we lived in an area where tornados never happen, but a week after 9/11 we had one touch down about 2 miles from where I worked at the time. I remember that day so vividly,we were all still in shock over the WTC/Pentagon, and I was looking out my window sort of daydreaming when I saw this thing that looked like a funnel in the sky. I thought to myself, "wow, that looks like a tornado, but that couldn't be, since there are no tornados in Maryland" and the next thing I know the lights went out and someone came into my office to tell me that we in fact did just have a tornado touch down. The next day was the most bizarre thing, debris everywhere. Two girls that went to University of Maryland, where the tornado met land, were killed. Such a tragedy so soon after 9/11, my heart broke for their family, they happen to be sisters.

Long post.

You should have added that to your list of choices. That would be my pick.

BTW, it's ok to use my pic in your sig. :smooth:

I forgot about that tornado. That was aweful too! I would think Earthquakes would be the next scariest.

never been through an earthquake but have been through
and cleaned up behind the other two. guess the unknown
scares me the most.
