DH and I are finally planning our next trip(s) to WDW!!!!!! We will probably stay at a moderate (I'm leaning towards French Quarter at the moment). I was wondering what type of room to reserve. Would there be more room for a crib if we got a king bed room? We will need a crib since our little one will be a year old or so when we go.

Ideally I'd LOVE to stay at the Polynesian but I don't know if we will be able to afford it. (I know you can't get king bed rooms here, but the rooms are QUITE spacious!)

So would you get a standard room or a king bed room at a moderate so there's enough room for a crib?

Thanks for any and all opinions!

If it were me, I would reserve a King bed room. This will allow more room for the crib and give you and DH a nice big bed!

Scanne...have you considered a cabin at Fort Wilderness? It's a very peaceful experience...nice with a baby, I think. You can also put the baby down for a nap in the bedroom and still enjoy the living room. And you have a full refrigerator for baby food, etc.. We stayed there twice many moons ago for our 2nd and then 3rd child's first stay and really enjoyed those trips.

There is enough room in any of the WDW resorts (including the All Stars) for a crib. Many times the king rooms are actually handicapped rooms and the left over room is used for the bigger bathroom.

scanne, I would definitely book the king room. If your little one turns out to be like either of mine at that age, s/he may not sleep well away from home. The only way we could get our kids to sleep while staying in hotels from about 6 months to 24 months was to put them in bed with us. At home, they always slept in their crib but, while traveling, it just didn't work that way. It gets mighty crowded with two adults and a 14 month old in one bed. If your little one does sleep fine in the crib, I still think you would be better off with the king. It seems to me like there would be a bit more room for the crib.

I think I agree with Carrie - my dd always ended up in our bed when we were away from home, and a King bed will be more comfortable in that case.
Even if not, you will feel more crowded if you have a bed you don't need in the room.

I would suggest hiring a fridge as well - they are pricey, but it will make life easier

My problem with reserving the king room is what a previous poster stated that a lot of the king rooms are handicapped. That would be a problem with a one year old, no bathtub!! You would definately need that to give the little one a bath!!! If you could get a non-handicapped king room, I'd definately go for it, again for the reasons stated above. When my DD was little she didn't like sleeping in strange beds and had to sleep with us, so with the king, lots of room for everyone!!!

I just have to share that when I first read your posted question, I thought you were asking about a Type A baby!!

In response to your real question, you might want a regular room with 2 full beds. I say that because when our little one was crib sized, she didn't want to sleep in the crib. So, I'd bring her into bed with me. My DH can't sleep with a tumbly kid in the bed (I can sleep through anything), so I was glad he had his own bed. If either of you parents need peaceful sleep, you might be glad you have 2 beds. Just a thought. (I can deal with a tired baby; a tired DH is a whole different thing.)

We frequently stay in king rooms at the moderates, and they are plenty big enough for a crib. They offer considerably more floor space than the rooms with 2 doubles, since the bed does take up less total space. And at the moderates, the king rooms are not exclusively handicap rooms like they are at the values. You'll get a "normal" room with a bathtub and everything.

Have fun!

When we took our DS who was 1 1/2 a few years ago the cribs were the pack and play type. So they are able to be folded up and put away if you need some more room. I have a feeling our DD will end up in bed with us but we are going to give the crib a try.
