What rides are worth videotaping?

When we go in Dec. I want to video tape quite a bit, including many of the rides. But as I watch Youtube, there seem to be a lot of rides that are just too dark to videotape (obviously we won't try to use a light when you're not supposed to).
So, for all of you other videotapers out there, which rides have you found to be bad to tape, and/or which rides are good to tape.

I would say to stick with the outdoor rides, such as BTMRR, Dumbo, the Spitting Camel Ride, Astro Orbiter, outdoor portion of Test Track, Kilimanjaro Safari, etc. I have also found that the TTT is a good place to video, and have a pretty decent video of my wild solo ride on Primeval HURL, complete with audio commentary, which cracks my 8 year old (who wasn't brave enough to ride it herself) up. The key factor is, as you have indicated, lighting. If it's a dark ride, pack the cameras away, and just enjoy the ride. One exception to that, IMO, would be Small World. It is bright enough that you can get some decent video on that one.

It kind of depends on your video camera and your tolerance for noisy, poorly focused video.

As I've looked at video I've taken at WDW, I wish that I'd shot more of the people I was with and less of the attractions.

One thing that I think that video is great for but people rarely do is interviews. Interview people in your group before they head out for the day about the things they are looking forward to. If they aren't too tired at the end of the day, ask them about the things that made the day special. Personally, I think a video of a 5 year old talking about how thrilling the Buzz Light Year ride was is worth far more than a good video of the ride itself.

I'd give this a great big second. We have some tape of DD telling us about meeting Mary Poppins following our breakfast at 1900 Park Faire and it's just about our most treasured video. It's from her first trip to WDW at age 6. Most attractions will still be there next time you go...but the kids will never be that age again, and there is only one first trip - EVER!

Also, there are a ton of videos out there already taken from on the rides - and much better quality that you can find on YouTube. There's several different sites that have some, and the larger ones can be found on a couple sites. Sometimes you'll find them as video podcasts, this site has some very nice high-rez 720x480 (DVD resolution) video of some rides from Disneyland, along with a little podcast-style commentary before or after. If you are familiar with usenet, there's a group that often has larger, high-quality Disney park videos. There's at least one very big BitTorrent site. There's probably several more that I'm not aware of. You can even find high-def stuff sometimes.

Plus, you can buy stuff ready-made. Disney themselves sell DVDs at the park that include ride videos, probably higher-quality than anything you'll take. If you want real detail, look at the Extinct Attractions stuff. (5 DVDs for 20,000 Leagues? That's right up my alley! )

The point is, chances are that someone has already produced better-quality video than you will (and that's not meant as an insult, just saying that some people have tried over and over with some pretty nice equipment already.) If you are after it for the fun of it, great; but if you just want a record of the ride and don't care who did it, save yourself the trouble.

If you do video it, please do everyone a favor and do not use the flip-out LCD screen! Those can be extremely distracting... just use the eyepiece LCD, please and thank you.
