My 2 yr old daughter has severe peanut allergy...and we are getting ready to make our reservations and we were wondering if there are any resturants/dinner shows to avoid? I know that the chefs will come and talk to us..but it still scares me alittle?

My daughter's allergies aren't life threatening so I don't have the same level of concern as you do. I'm at the point where I'm basically just avoiding the non-Disney owned restaurants. It's not that they don't take food allergy safety into consideration because they do. They just don't have the safe alternatives on hand so options are very limitted. I can get that at home. We vacation at WDW primarily because of the amazing options and knowing that we can eat safely. Both are important to us as I'm sure you can understand.

I think there have been other threads in the past regarding a couple asian restaurants and peanuts but it's been a while. My family doesn't eat much asian food, though my daughter is hoping to get some sushi while we're there so I really should look into it. Hopefully others will chime in. Peanuts is a new allergy in our house so I'm not yet familiar with that particular allergy at WDW.

My son has life threatening allergies to peanuts and tree nuts, and we've now done 2 different 9-day vacations at WDW and are returning in May. We always do the dining plan since eating out is a big part of why we go to Disney.

We were advised by Brenda Bennett (who was managing the allergy questions for WDW last I knew) to avoid the Chinese and Japanese restaurants at Epcot during our '08 visit, so we did the same in '09. I think there are just too many cross-contamination issues. We have also had difficulty at almost every Epcot restaurant we've tried. The chefs at Le Cellier and Coral Reef were not very helpful, whereas every other Magic Kingdom/Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios restaurant has been great. I cancelled a reservation at San Angel because I read about such many bad experiences there from families with allergies. That is one of the many non-Disney owned restaurants at Epcot, which from what I've read on this board, should definitely be avoided. There are many wonderful places to go, so avoiding a few isn't difficult.

We did the lunch at Akershus at Epcot, and we did have a great experience there. The chef was extremely helpful and made my son a very nice "custom" dessert since the other desserts weren't safe.

We have done the Mickey’s Backyard BBQ dinner show, and I think everything there was safe, including the desserts.

Enjoy your trip. It really extra wonderful for a family who is used to limited dining choices in the ‘real world.’

My son has a life threatening Peanut/tree Nut allergy. We travel to Disney every year. We have found Disney to be wonderful about it. We had great experience at, Le Cellier, Rose and Crown, Crystal Place, The Plaza, Garden Grill in The Land. Sci-Fi, MaMa Melrose.

I would not recommend Wolf Gang Pukes on the West side at DTD they use alot of peanut products. Even though they were GREAT, about it while we were there I was a mess with worry, but he assured me he take every precaution there was, and he did. Nothing came to our table that was not safe.

We stay away from AK meals and Mexico and Chinese.

All buffets we had no problems with, the Chef comes out and walks us through it or they brought out different food for him.

As long as you let them know, you will be fine. Remind them when you get there at check in and again when you order.

Good Luck Maria
