We plan to go with my cousins family in the future. We're 2 adults and 3 kids and my cousins family is 2 adults and 3 kids (our kids are bw 3-8). I noticed that all the 2 bedrooms are either 8 or 9. Am I forced to do a 3 bedroom with 10 people? Does the fact that they most of the people are kids change anything? I'm curious how people manage this without wasting so many points. TIA ....

Unfortunately, yes, with 10 people you would need a GV -- or consider a 2 BR and a studio, depending on the number of people in each family group and the number of sleeping surfaces needed (not to mention privacy or downtime so that kids can nap, kids can go to bed early and adults stay up, etc. The 2 BR can be the hang out villa for meals, the meeting place for activities, etc. The age of the kids doesn't matter unless one of them is under age 3 and sleeps in a crib - they don't count towards room occupancy. Since all of yours are 3+, they all count. Sorry. But don't think of it as wasting points - it sounds like you're giving an amazing gift!

In retrospect, it wouldn't be something we do every year with that many people, but our kids would have so much fun with their cousins. And you are so right- it really would be such an amazing gift in so many ways. My biggest worry is that if I use too many points on one trip that the following year we wouldn't be able to book a trip to Disney. I was just playin around and it seems like Old Key West 3 bedroom villa's are the most reasonable as far as points. We currently have two DVC's (360 total points). I'm almost tempted to add on a small contract with a few points just to have the freedom to do as we please without feeling the need that the following year we won't have many points to work with.

Look at the GF 2 BR lock off. That will allow 10. But if you don't own there you will be more likely to hit Power Ball.

The Treehouses would do this. Just had a lovely stay there last week and I have fallen in love with this resort!

It doesn't help you but it's crazy that some studios you can put 5 people in, but the two bedroom is upto 9. I'm not sure if there is enough oxygen in some studios for 5 people.

We did a trip like yours in the spring. Took DD and DDil and 6 grandkids ages 4 to 15. Grandma and grandpa (us) had a studio down the hall. The kids had so much fun. It was a joy for me to see all the kids squeezed around the table eating.

You didn't ask for tips, but for that trip, because the 2 bedroom has glass glasses, we brought along take and toss cups with lids. Kid 1 has green, kid 2 had blue, etc. You could make labels at home if you want. Also for the parks, first day I bought water bottles for everyone. They got thirsty then water got warm, or spilled, or bottle flipping. Next day I bought little paper bathroom cups, Open bottle, everyone get 2-3 oz, open bottles as needed. No more wasted water or keeping track who had which bottle. And the rest of the bottles stayed cold.

We do 2 studios at RR. We take my SIL and her husband and kids so we have 8 ppl. But the studios sleep 5.

We've ta;led about getting a 2 bdrm, but I think we prefer our own seprerate spaces even if they are smaller spaces lol

2 studios that sleep 5 is going to be the most point economical. Or the couple of 2BR lockoffs that allow 10. Next up the chain would be a studio for 5 and a 1BR for 5 to have a larger space to gather in.

I don’t have personal experience doing this but I’ve thought about booking 2br lock off as studio and 1bedroom separate and calling to request they be adjacent. My understanding is many of these rooms (bcv, brv, bwv) can fit 5 in studio and 5 in 1bedroom even though they only fit 9 total. We’ve also considered 2 poly rooms request connected but feel like this would be cramped.

Booking them separate is a premium vs booking it as a 2BR. And people don't always seem to have the best luck getting that request of studio and 1BR adjacent. It happens but seems more likely to not happen. But it could allow more options.

Our upcoming trip is with my sister’s family (2A, 2kids) plus maybe our mom for a total of 10. we also have 360 points. We had some avail to bank and borrow. i orig booked RIV with a 2br for us and a 1BR for them (mom would stay with us). We’ve since switch to BLT, still 2br and a 1BR. We looked at a 3br, but decided we each needed some dedicated space and it’s more economical to do the 2/1 unless we went with OKW or SSR. Those we ruled out because of location (1st trip for my niece and nephew) to be near a park. It’s still a lot of point but we have enough left that we can borrow again for Our annual trip but try a cheaper resort (point wise)

Ten people gathering in a 2bd living area for dinner will be standing room only! OKW would work though, not the other ones the way I see it. We had a 2 bd at OKW for 4 kids ages 9 and 7 (triplets) and it can get crazy when they want to play.

If you can swing a 3 bd, thatś the way to go, especially OKW. They are the largest and cheapest.

Not a resort but Fort Wilderness Campsites can accommodate 10....

That's a really good point. Would that be considered the same as a 2 bedroom lock off at BLT? I'm going to call later today- if a one bedroom accommodates 5 and a studio accommodates 5, then why is the 2- bedroom lock off or 2 bedroom only go up to 9?!

BLT Studios officially sleep 4 plus one infant (under 3).

Not all resorts have studios *and* 1br that both accommodate 5 people not in cribs, and that's the only way to have a 2br LO accommodate 10.

Some have 1br that accommodate 5 and a studio that takes only 4 (BLT)
Others accommodate 5 in a studio but only 4 in a 1br (still a head scratcher for me) (e.g. BWV, BCV)
