What would you feel the best resort to buy into would be if you planned on going to WDW half the time and either VB or HH the other half. I was thinking SSR would be the best because the end date is further away but please give me your opinions. Thanks.

Hi Tim,
Buy where you most want to stay. If you plan on Food and Wine Festival trips (Oct/Nov) and prefer to stay close to the action, then buy BWV or BCV. If you really want to stay at the VWL during the Dec holidays, then I'd buy there. In fact, it's pretty difficult to get any of the smaller DVC resorts (VWL, BCV or BWV) during early Dec or Christmas week. So the 12 month window would be very crucial for certain times of the year for certain resorts if you really want them.

If you are very open and flexible to where you stay and the extra years is important to you, then SSR would be your best bet (don't forget the upcoming VAK too !!!). The extra years don't mean that much to me, because I'm 43 and I'll be way too old to take advantage of them. But if you are younger and that's important, then go with SSR or the new VAK.

Best of luck !

Also....wanted to add.....not sure if you've seen all the DVC resorts in wdw, but actually visiting them might help you make your decision. It might not be the extra years that draws you in, but the ambience of a particular resort.

We have ended up with points at OKW, Vero and HH - we like to go to Vero and HH at the busiest times (holidays, spring break and summer at HH) so with the 11 month window we always get what we want!

:thumbsup2

Would it matter how many points at each resort. Say 100,100,100 or 25,25,250? Say you have 25 points at a resort and 275 at others when making a reservation at the resort with 25 is it treated as 300 if you are going to use the other points? Question sounds kind of funny. Thanks

Only the 25 at that "home" resort would be given the 11 to 8 months out "home priority" booking. Points owned at other DVC resorts would have to abide by the 7 month booking window. So if you had 25 points at HH, but wanted to book a week's vacation totaling 250 points there, you could only book the first 25 points at HH 11 months out. Then you'd have to call back at 7 months on the dot, and book the remaining 225 points. That's why it gets tricky and I suggest buy where you plan to vacation the most, or where you will be the happiest if you are very specific about which resort you stay at.
Hope this helps.

It does depend a lot on timing of your trips, but you may want to consider a contract with enoug points to satisfy your WDW urge, and an add-on that meets the other needs. FOr example....if these trips are alternating by years.... in the odd years you want to stay at BCV for a week...and in the even years you want to stay at Hilton Head in the summer. If the BCV stay is 350 points (summer - wkly - 2bdr), then buy 175 points and then bank every other year for that stay. After buying that contract - add-on in the same manner for the other resort - say HH is 330 (summer - wkly - 2bdr) - then you buy 165 and employ the same method of banking.

Of course - there are other factors - the extra 12 years - the resale market and prices, - 7 month window isn't important some times - etc.

Personally, I'd buy HHI or VB. I think that with tens of thousands of new members being added with AKV (and then CRV..., and then Eagle Pines......) it is going to get harder and harder to get a summer reservation at the extremely small VB or HHI resorts. If you're planning to spend half your time there, I'd buy there. It will be much easier to get a 7 month reservation somewhere at Disney than it will be to spend a July week at HHI.

Very good advice starbox. I just wanted Tim to be "ok" with the fact he might not get "certain" resorts during certain time periods. If he's flexible, then your idea may be the best one.
