As you take the boat to downtown disney from POR, what resort is to the left...the single unit cabins with the huge wall of windows?

I think you are talking about the tree top villas which we were told by the boat captain are used now to house international students who are doing internships at WDW.

With a February date on the press release, things may have changed. Recently had a CM tell me due to the cost of refurbishing and rebuilding after all the hurricanes of '04, these will still used to house international CM's until further notice.

Kinda scarey they are not safe for guest to stay, but are perfectly fine for CM's?:confused3

It doesn't seem to be that they are unsafe, but there are some issues with them not being handicap accessable. The living quarters are upstairs and there is no way to get a wheelchair up there. When the handicap law was passed, they couldn't design the treehouses to conform to the new laws.

They are beautiful to see and very nostalgic since they were designed by Walt himself.:goodvibes

I stayed in the tree houses in the 80's with my mom, stepdad (who recently passed away) and my 2 brothers. It was truly the most awesome vacation, and at my stepdads service my brother gave a speech and brought up some happy memories involving the treehouses. I am extremely nostalgic about them, and was so happy to go past them on the ride to DTD from POR last fall (2 months after he died). I hope they never get rid of them, and if they do refurbish them and offer them to guests as accomidations, I would be the first in line to stay in one!

I heard about the handicap accessibility being an issue, but also that they can't make them handicap accessible due to some environmental laws about construction... not sure exactly what was meant by that, but hopefully they will be restored to their previous level.

When I was down there in March, the boat captain said that only a percent of the rooms needed to be handicapped accessible ... so I think that might only affect a couple of the tree houses. But it was my impression that they were in process of refurbishing them.
