Has anyone heard anything about the next resort following SSR? The last rumor was still Eagle Pines. Does anyone know how well SSR is selling (how many buildings are sold out)?

Thanks!

Disney World to expand Saratoga Springs

Sentinel staff reports
Posted May 27, 2004, 10:16 AM EDT

Disney World officials today announced plans for Phase III of its new Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, adding another 276 units by 2OO7.

The resort opened this month with 184 units. Al Weiss, Walt Disney World president, said 75 percent of Phase I has been sold.

When Phase II is completed -- 368 units by 2OO5 -- the time-share resort built on the site of the former Disney Institute will have 828 accommodations.

Obviously the guys in WDW management must be thinking past SSR Phase II. Of the two prevailing rumors:

1) Contemporary or
2) Eagle Pines

What is the most likely? Or is it possible that they could surprise everyone with a new location or concept?

My guess is that ease / cost of development will drive the decision. That might mean Contemporary.

On the other hand, with a new phase at SSR they would have the time to develop the necesarry roads and infrastructure at Eagle Pines.

I would also guess that they would have more room to develop at Eagle Pines - but - I have never played the course or wandered back there.

Stay tuned I suppose.

While attending Member Homecoming I asked as many cast members this question as possible and many would not discount the Contemporary as the next resort. One cast member told me this would happen without me asking. I pressed him about where his information was coming from and asked if he was sure. He backpeddled a little then but said don't be surprised if the North Wing of the Garden rooms becomes DVC. I also asked some DVC cast members and they said they heard the rumors and would not dismiss them.

I guess we can only hope!

The DVC cast members also mentioned Eagle Pines as the next resort. All this information was acquired before the announced expansion of SSR, so none of it matters until that sells out in a couple of years.

My sources tell me...... (OK, I really don't have any "sources", I just always wanted to say that).......but I would be willing to offer this....
Contemporary - 70%
Eagle Pines - 30%

I don't think WDW - who controls the Contemporary not DVC = has made up its mind.

They hadn't spend the money and time necessary to really fix up the Cont wing rooms - but I haven't heard that they have allowed DVC to buy it either - remember these are two different organizations of course - the problem might be with DVC - they might be having a money crush - because of SSR......

Gee I would love the Cont - hope for a word one way or the other soon.

the wings at the Cont needs to be completely redone - if the Cont is not going to spend the money necessary to do it shorterly - hopefully they will allow DVC to have it

Who wants to bet that if the Cont becomes part of the DVC that is sales out in a year or less??????

DH and I already agreed that if the Contemporary was offered, we would add-on instantly. We even toyed with the idea of telling our guide to call as soon as she knew anything.:D

If it is the Contemporary don't you think the entire structure, not just the rooms need to be redone? We were there two weeks ago and just from looking at it from the outside it needs an exterior facelift also. It just looks old and is old, but I know the location is ideal.

Gee, not to want to add to any rumors, but WHAT IF...They just tore down the Contemporary and built a whole new DVC resort?

I hope folks realize I was being facitious in that last post!:p Actually, I find cast members to be not terribly reliable about know "what next". We were told by MANY that AKL would be a DVC resort only. Unfortunately, they were WRONG!

Diane's right - again. Unfortunately, you can ask a question of 5 CMs and get six different answers.

I tend to think that the CR might be better for DVC. It seems that they have more than enough villas covering the golf zone, particularly considering Phase III of SSR. Plus, if DVC bought a wing or two of the CR, perhaps then the Resorts group and DVC could undertake a joint 'refurb' of the CR. I love the CR - spent two great vacations with my parents in the early 70s there - but the old girl is starting to show her age.

Just curious -- how did the Contemporary rumors getting started in the first place? Is it just speculation from CM's and wishful DVC owners (myself included) or has there actually been something published from the powers that be?

Okay - just adding to the rumor mill, but the rumor I heard down there this week was that they are looking at CR north wing because they can really build along the lagoon - there is a big stretch that is along lagoon that is unused...that would be cool!

I first heard about the rumor on Screamscape last year.

My guess is that the CR would be next. That being said nothing would suprise me.

The CR is the best bet for DVC for the following reasons:

1) it appears that the location may be made available (as mentioned many times here, this is still rumor)

2) The North Wing is in dire need of an overhaul with no re-furb plans on the horizon. The condition of the North Wing was a subject of discussion on the resorts board. As long as the North Wing undergoes no significant renos, it points to the fact that something is up.

3) The desire of DVC to have a resort on the monorail.

4) Even out demand. As mentioned many tmes on this board, it is feared that the size of SSR in conjunction with OKW will create excessive demand at the other resorts at the 7th month window. The CR will help to address this.

5) EP was suppose to be a golf resort. SSR is at a golf course. Perhaps SSR, especially with phase 3, may have replaced this. Not that EP may never happen, just maybe not anytime soon.

These are my opinions and as I stated earlier, nothing would suprise me.

Disney and DVC always has many suggestions on the table for consideration. With DVC, I doubt there are many possible resort sites they have NOT considered.

Depending on who has been privvy to the actual discussion, the possible sites (like AKL, CR, Poly, GF, Venetian- the ground on the monorail between CR and TTS) have been unintentionally (or intentially) leaked - even though no serious consideration ever took place (just a mention in a brainstorming session). When another CM gets wind that one of these site was "discussed in the meeting" it suddenly becomes the next location and is fair game for the rumor mill.

At this time there have been "official" announcements of the site in Newport, CA (later scrapped and the land sold to another timeshare developer), land was owned in Colorado and a resort was to be built in NYC. All later fell by the wayside, with no particular announcement.

The Eagle Pines project (no name for the resort was ever announced) was "officially" released- including artist renderings and has not ever been declared dead. The rumored supsicion is that it is still a viable project but, just as with SSR, something else could still be offered before that ever is built. Eagle Pines will still require a lot of infrastructure (roadways, utilities, common areas, etc.)- which was an advantage at SSR since many of those were already in place. A CR project would likely have similar advantages, as long as the other obstacles could be overcome.

Stay Tuned!

With SSR being such a masive resort. When could we anticipate hearing about the next project. It think they are about up to 3 of the 12 or 15 building sold out. That took about a year or 2. I would think we are looking at at least 2 years before any resorts would be planned.

I don't know - that say.

the Cont wings needs to be updated badly.....So far WDW is not willing to put their money into this - this was the situation with the DI when WDW gave it up (sold it) to DVC.

WDW hates to receive complaints - especially about their deluxe resorts - if they receive enough complaints about the Cont - they will have to do something NOW or sell it to the DVC.

DVC will NEVER receive the Tower (my opinons counts for nothing) - it was on the originally design by Walt and I don't think WDW could sell it to DVC without a big fight by the Disney family. So that will not happen - again my opinion means nothing...... Besides WDW is pretty good about kepting the Tower rooms updated.

I heard or read somewhere a possibility of a new resort along the Epcot Monorail line. How would that be for a future site?

Makes sense. There is plenty of room, and it would be a great stop.

If you look at the arial prictures, there is so much room around the lake to the north east of the Contemporary Resort, seems like plenty of room for additional DVC resort space. It might be the shot in the arm the contemporary needs. And to be within walking distance of MK? Excellent location. I'd stay there if it's available when the kids are young.
