I have to call in a few days to reserve a studio for SSR in January.

I KNOW I KNOW- Requests are NOT guarantees!!!

I would like to know from people who visited or stayed at SSR what they think a decent room location would be and why?

Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks!

:D

From Doc's pics, I'm going to guess a waterview in any of the first 4 buildings will give you a fairly good view of the PI fireworks -- I'm gong to update our January ressie with a DTD view request for this very reason.

We were there a couple weeks in a studio and requested non-smoking, waterview. We got non-smoking garden view in Congress Park.

For our upcoming reservations in January, we requested non-smoking in The Springs so that we could be closer to the pool, Carriage House, Artists Palette, etc. We'll see what happens.

Here is some SSR information that may help.

We just came back after spending 5 nights in a two bedroom at SSR. It was room # 2411. We were the first non cast member guests to stay in that room. It was very nice. We had a view of the quiet pool with DTD in the back ground. I was able to yell down to my husband at the pool when dinner was ready. The bus stop was also very close. The room was in the Congress Park building.

hey disney4fun I need some info. I am going to ssr in oct 04 and staying in a 2br. did your second bedroom have two queen beds or one and a pull out. what buildings are open and does the construction disturb your stay.do you have any tips or suggestions on ssr. how was the pool and artist palate?

We stayed at SSR on opening day (May 17th), and loved the resort, hope you enjoy your stay too.

The Congress Park area will be the buildings that you need to request a Downtown Disney View. I am not sure if The Springs will be open by then, those building are closer to the main pool and restaurant/check-in section of the resort.

Good luck

Eric

Lemme see if I have this right, b/c we are staying in a 1br for 3 nights this summer:

THe only buildings open when we are there will be the Congress Park (that are a bit away from the main pool, but have a quiet pool.) These buildings are nearest DTD.

If I would love a DTD view, is that what I should request? I could deal with the view someone else described (quiet pool with DTD in background)... would I request quiet pool view? Is it possible to view the quiet pool and NOT see DTD in the view? Lastly -- where are the designated smoking rooms? WOuld prefere to steer clear of those; if they are confined to a paritcular building, even better.

THanks!

We just got back from staying at SSR last week. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND room #2345!!!!! It was a 1 bedroom with the most amazing view of DD!!!!! You could see from Rainforest cafe to the end of West Side. The fireworks could be seen if you were laying in bed. The building just opened on June 7th and we were the first ones to use the room EVER! What a special treat! We had a terrific view of the quiet pool and playground area as well. It is a bit of a walk to the main pool so we drove to it instead. Congress park should be totally open by August 2004. I did notice that the model rooms did not have the great view of DD that we had. I miss "HOME" already!

As of two weeks ago, there were two buildings open, both in Congress Park. If you look at Doc's map above, and see those 4 buildings that are on the lower right hand part of the map, the two at the bottom are the ones that were open.

The quiet pool is open, and it's only about a 10 minute walk to the main pool.

We had requested DTD view, but had only booked in March and ended up getting swamp view, which wasn't all that bad.

We had two queen beds in the second bedroom. The construction didn't bother us. It wasn't pretty to look at, but there wasn't any noise. I would request a DTD view. We were on the fourth floor. The pools were both great. We never ate at the artist palette. We cooked in the room or ate at the parks.

How far can you be from the main pool that you would have to drive to get there?

We were in one of the Congress Park Buildings by the quiet pool. I would say it was a five block walk to the main pool and a seven block walk to the boat dock that takes you to DTD. That may not seem far now. But you know how long it seems after you have been walking in the parks all day in the Florida heat. :sunny:

Huh. In Webmasterdoc's post about building configs ( http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=573432 ) he showed that room would be a studio. But it's a 1BR?

How could a person tell, if made an offer at the desk for available rooms and given a choice of, let's say, 3 rooms all with "water view", which would look at DTD? Any way to know, roughly?

When we go, all 4 Congress Park buildings will be open. WOuld it be more advantageous to take a building nearest to the "left" on the map, so as to reduce walking time to the main pool? Or would it even matter? And will the walking trail over to DTD that had been mentioned on a prior thread be open as SOON as the 4 COngress Park buildings are open? I hope so!

FWIW...we're at the "end" of building 2 (2434) and still have a nice view of DTD. We can't see the quiet pool from our balcony.

GV is 2607 (in the building we've commonly referred to as building "1"). Lockoff 2BR is 2601 and 2603. There is a greeter in the GV (handing out pins to current dvc members). After spending time at this site, I didn't find her terribly knowledgable...or maybe she just wasn't being up front with information. :D Friendly, though! They are open from 8-6 every day except Sunday IIRC.
