What reminds you of "Home" while your not there??

I just bought some Palmolive dishwashing soap. The green one. I usually buy the yellow one but the green one reminds me of "home".

What subtle things remind you of "home"???? I had nice memories while washing dishes!!!!

My kitchen! I know that sounds wierd, but when we remodeled last year I showed the carpenter pix of the cupboards at BWV. Now I have the beadboard fronts. Not white like BWV, but close enough!

Our front room! We have a framed print of the VWL, a framed photo of us next to the Mickey topiary outside the VWL w/the VWL pin, and two giant WDW railroad posters above the log-framed futon/sofa. Also the Frank Lloyd Wright-style lamps. Our kitchen/dining room is also painted in VWL colors and has beadboard partway up the walls -- purely coincidence on that room, though!

I laughed at mikesmom's post cuz that's exactly what I plan to do when we redo our kitchen. Love the BWV kitchens!!

Our home resort is VWL. When I'm feeling particularly wistful, I'll put on the soundtrack to "Last of the Mohicans" which gets a lot of airplay at the Lodge. Also, our public library has a very "lodgey" feel to it. When I really need a fix, I go to our library's reading room. It is decorated in the mission style and overlooks the river that runs through our town. It even SMELLS like the lodge. How did they do that?

It's a good thing I have these little things to tide me over.

OK- I have never told anyone this because I thought they would think I was strange, but now that I read about the palmolive dishwashing detergent, I know others will understand. When I would travel to Disney in the early early days (way before DVC), I would buy and use a strongly scented shampoo that I would use on every WDW trip, and only on my WDW trips. When I returned home, if I ever wanted to "visit" WDW again, all I would have to do is take a sniff of the shampoo and it brought me back. They don't make that shampoo anymore (and I am not telling what it is because not only would it really date me, you would REALLY think I was strange!) The same thing happens now with our vacations, but in a not so planned way. We used to use a specific bath product in the hot tubs at DVC and when we smelled it at home it reminded us of "home". The company has stopped making this particular product, so we will have to look for a replacement.

O my gosh!! Not strange at all, donald@home!! I have some shower gel that I ONLY use on vacation and, yep, one whiff and I'm *right there*.

I feel much better now. I have a hand lotion that I use that always reminds me of being on vacation. I love to use it when I'm having a stressful day at work to remind me of my past times "home" and of my upcoming trip "home"

I was doing some Christmas shopping at American Eagle last year, and I came across their "AliveRevitalize" lotion. It has a wonderful aroma that reminds me of the Sturdy Branches Health Club at the VWL. It also reminds me of the spa on the cruise ships.

I'll have to see if I can find that. VWL is our home resort and DW and are avid users of the gym.

Now listen to my crazy smell! I opened up the garage the other day and I said, "Honey it smells like vacation!" He said that I was crazy. I guess I must have a good smelling garage! I also used shampoo one time camping that my MIL gave me. Now whenever I use that sent I think of camping as well! I never thought about using the green Palmolive! I am going to buy some on my next grocery trip!

When we had our house built a few years back, I ordered and installed Wood Blinds with the cloth tabs very much like the ones at OKW for our Family Room and Kitchen. Evertime I look at the blinds it reminds me of my '2nd Home'

sgtdisney, funny you mentioned that!!! We are in the process of building a home. I want my basement to remind me of OKW. I am looking into the wooden blinds as well. Also, looking into Florida tile and plan on purchasing some of the OKW and VB prints!!!!

I also plan to dedicate a wall to WDW..........finally put all those pictures of ToT, Splash Mt., RnR in frames and get them out of my drawer!!!!

Donald@home, I too found a bubble bath I only use when we go to BWV. In fact, I take two bottles for all those "dips" in the massibe whirlpool tub. Unfortunately, I don't take baths at home and the companion shower gel doesn't have the same ingredients, so I guess I'll need to stockup for my next trip home.

I collect WDW soaps and shampoos (SOS!) for the kids at Children's Hospital in Boston. My living room is literally covered with boxes and boxes of Mickey Mouse soap and shampoo, as is my basement and two of my closets. (We usually bag them up every two months or so, but we're overdue!) It's hard *not* to think of "home" in this house. And with three teenage boys and smelly soccer socks, the soap smell is truly appreciated.
