I agree. I am Christian, and like Jodifla, I hate the way we seem to have become defined by the zealots. But I do try to speak out and let people know that the fundamentalists don't speak for all of us.becker1123 said:Christian, specifically Lutheran. For those of you who don't want to be identified with Christians because of the right wingers or other zealots, don't drop out, stay with it and set a better example. Those of us, of any religion who don't agree with what's going on need to stand up and speak out. It's a cop out to criticize but not try to change things, I think. I don't mean this as a flame, but nothing is perfect, especially people or organized religion. We shouldn't let a few bad apples make us doubt our faith.![]()
I'm a little surprised at the lack of diversity shown in the poll. Not a single Muslim or Hindu (as I post, anyway)? It's also a little opposite of what I see in my area, which includes many more Muslims, Hindus and Wiccans than Atheists, (despite being a primarily white, Christian suburban area). I agree with those who said that some probably don't feel comfortable admitting to being Atheist/Agnostic when not anonymous.
