I have received my package with the video and prelinary informatiion regarding my future DVC purchase . I pretty much understand how the points system works, but I feel like I'm missing something. I would like to know what Magical Beginnings is. I would also like to know what, if any, surprises came up during anyone's purchase? Also, any tips on must ask questions for my DVC guide?

Thank You for your help!

Magical Beginnings is a program in which you forfeit your first year's points in exchange for a credit on the purchase, but I don't if it is available now. You might want to ask if there are any incentives being offered for the resort you are purchasing. (I am guessing it is Saratoga Springs.) If you decide that you want to purchase, the large package that is sent Fedex answers most all the questions that may come up. You have plenty of time to think about it once you receive the package. I believe you have a full 30 days to complete your deposit after the inital $500 deposit and you also have about 2 weeks to cancel the contract once you send it in. If you have specific questions, I am sure your Guide would be glad to answer them for you.

These boards are also an invaluable source of information

...so ask away!

If you understand the points system (including use year, banking and borrowing), then you pretty much get it. Especially if you're looking to use your points primarily to stay at DVC resorts.

Trading out is a little trickier, but they'll guide you through that as well.

Good luck as you go through the purchase process!:)

We are sending in our paperwork today. We bought at BWV and were offered Magical Beginnings, so as of last week it is still in effect. We have a use year beginning 6/03. We sold 150 pts. back to DVC and they applied that amount to our down payment. So we get our full points this coming June. Since we weren't planning on traveling before then it was a no-brainer for us. Good luck.

Magical Beginnings is an incentive where DVC offers a $10 per point discount in exchange for your first year's points. You will still pay prorated maintenance fees on those points.

It is not currently available at SSR (the $10 incentive offered there does not require the loss of any points), but may still be used for other resorts still available thru DVC.

If you have other questions, please ask! :)

We just got the MB discount on 210 points at BCV, and like goofy4tink we got a June 03 use year and don't plan on going until later next year or maybe bank the 04 points and get a 2BR in 05.

As I understand it, if Disney has points available at a sold out resort, like BCV, because a contract did not go through they can offer MB. But if the points come from them exercising their ROFR on a resale, they may not be able to offer it if the seller has already used the current years points.

As WebmasterDoc points out, the $10 discount on SSR does not require you to give up points, but I don't think you can use the points yet, as the resort is not yet finished.

Iwent ahead and got the ball rolling on 230 points at SSR. I like the BCV and BWV ,but the 50 yrs and $10 per point credit swayed me.
I thank everyone for their insight

Hello, I am thinking of becoming a DVC member but am a bit confused. I'm thinking that when we decided to purchase we probably will not be using the first year's points. I understand they may or may not have the magical beginnings offer. If the offer does stand can we sell back all of the first years points and at what rate could they be sold back at to put towards the down payment?

My next question is ..is it possible that the resort I choose to make my home of purchase be all booked up? Or are all the resorts available all year round for anyone to become a DVC member? This question may not make sense...what i'm trying to ask is..for example if I want BWV to be my DVC home is it possible for them to tell me that they don't have any points availble for me to purchase there?

I'm sorry for sounding so dumb here LOL...i did read the FAQ's (twice) and did not find the answer to my questions...

Yes, it is possible that the DVC resort that you want for a home is not available for purchase through Disney. We just bought from Disney at BWV. The MB plan was offered and they bought the points from us for $10 a point, so that became $2000 toward the down payment.

We also wanted VWL, and tried to do that through a resale, however, Disney took advantage of ROFR and bought the points that we were going to buy. We could not buy a new contract from Disney at VWL, BUT we could go on a waitlist for an add on. We did this and now are in the process of adding on 50 points at VWL.

Since we bought the BWV just 2 weeks ago, (deed is still not recorded) it is possible that they still have some points for sale that they would be offering MB on, but I don't know for sure. We have a March use year, and a few messages before this, goofy4tink mentions a June use year.

Good luck in your decision-making!

Bobbi
