What "quality" do you use?

I always use the highest quality setting possible. The quality is still lower than I'd like, but that's my fault, not the setting.

I've used Sandisk, Kingston, A-Data, and transcend memory cards. The only problem I have ever had was when I put two Sandisk cards through the wash. They both came out much cleaner, but only one worked after that.

I do have Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0......so hopefully that will work good. I am still learning my way around that also. It can be very confusing and doesnt come with a whole lot of instructions!

The Ti uses CF cards while the XSi uses SD cards.

Gotcha! I'm just surprised that the Ti uses a different format than the XSi; missed that somewhere along the line....

Last summer I did exactly what you are thinking of doing on a trip out west when I shot both RAW and jpeg. My laptop died the first night on the trip so I purchased new cards at Wal-Mart and did fine! I also took pictures in jpeg on my Canon G5 which are not included in the numbers below.

Here's an excerpt from one of my posts just on this topic:

"I snapped well over 2500 pictures on my trip. Here's how the memory card space was used for my XSi with RAW images ranging from 15 mb -22 mb. The jpeg images range from 2mb - 9 mb.

Card #1 – 4 GB SDHC, 405 pictures/filling 3.65 GB (roughly half jpeg and half RAW) - Full card.

Card #2 – 4 GB SDHC, 404 pictures/filling 3.65 GB (roughly half jpeg and half RAW) - Full card.

Card #3 - 16 GB SDHC 1,376 pictures/filling 14.7 GB (roughly half jpeg and half RAW); this card was full!

Card #4 - 16 GB SDHC 933 pictures/9.99 GB (roughly half jpeg and half RAW); this card still had additional space for pics."

I don't *think* any one else has mentioned this point yet (although maybe I missed it) --

aside from all the other technical reasons to bring multiple cards, there's also a pretty practical one.

If ALL your images from your trip are on just one card, you are taking a huge risk that you'll lose everything (if the card goes bad, or if -- God forbid -- your camera is stolen, etc.).

I bring about 5 cards and I don't wait to fill each one to capacity; for a 10 day trip I'd use each card for about 2 days and then very carefully take it out, label the case for it, and leave it in the resort room safe and sound. Just some extra insurance to safe guard your pictures and memories!

When I moved from film to digital I used to save the images as RAW and JPG. But I quickly stopped doing so since it was two extra files to manage AND the RAW file generates a JPG anyway. Which is what you want to do. Take the RAW file, tweek it on a much fast computer than your DSLR, and then create a JPG. This would mean I would end up with a RAW file, a DSLR generate JPG image AND a RAW to JPG image. Too much too deal with and one JPG too many.

Of course saving the image on the card twice just uses up more room....

So save the image as a RAW and JPG until you get comfortable with using the RAW software. But at some point I would expect you to realize there is not real point in shooting both JPG and RAW.

Regarding which software to use to process RAW. Start looking for books, online websites and videos to help you use the software. I fumbled my way learning my software. Then there was a new release and I bought two books. I should have bought the books on day one. Would have had better images and saved time. There are also videos to buy for my software that show how to use it which can be very helpful when trying to figure out how to use a program to manipulate an image. Seeing is often easier then trying to follow a book.
