What psychology of mk do you know about?

I love this thread!

More things for me to look for at Disney!

For every three trees you see in the Magic Kingdom, there is one tree "behind the scenes" that is the similar size and looks. These trees are kept in case a tree is damaged during a storm it can be replaced at night without anyone knowing it was missing!

When I was at DW on our honeymoon, we took the boat from POR to Downtown Disney several times. At first I didn't even realize it but when you are on the boat, the music in the background fits according to the area. So when we were near POR and POFQ they had twangy, New Orleans, bayou sounding music that seamlessly transitioned into modern pop music when you entered Downtown Disney. It's such a smooth change, you don't even realize when it happens. Really puts you in the mood!

Do they do this on the other boats? I didn't even think to notice when we were on the "Friendships"

I just thought of a couple!

Go into the general store on main street and pick up the phone, you can hear a conversation between a mom and daughter that seems to take place at the turn of the century (I have heard it once in 2004 on the first night of the trip but the park was packed so I would like to do it again when it is a lil emptier)

To answer the person's question about the music on the sassagoula river boats at POR. Yes, this happens on the busses as well depending on what resort you are going to the music will be reflective of the resort just as the music changes depending on which park you are going to on the bus as well.

This one is my favorite, The reason why Peter Pan's flight is positioned where it is is because you are venturing from England into Colonial america (Liberty Square) so you are leaving the old world and entering the new world!

Goobergal99, I have looked for this phone on previous ocassions. I have even asked CM's to help me find it, no one seems to know what I am talking about. Which store is it in exactly? I have been in the Emporium, Exposition Hall, Main Street Confectionary, Firehouse Gifts , The Hat shop(Chapeu something), and Main Street Gallery to look for it. I would love to find it.

It's in the smuckers general store on the right hand side... I think right next door to the candy store. The phone is one of those old fashioned ones and it's right next to the register nearest the entrance! I will take a picture when I go back in a couple weeks and post it here :goodvibes

Oh thanks Goobergal99. I thought I was going crazy looking for something that didn't really exist since none of the Cm's knew what I was talking about.

Besides being a great part of the ride, the waterfall on Jungle Cruise serves an important purpose. They pour brown dye into the water at the top of the waterfall, and it mixes in on its way to the bottom....so, no the jungle cruise water isn't naturally "dirty" but it is dyed to look that way!

Also, at the end of the summer, the college student cast members on the ride throw their boots into the water or "jungle" somewhere on the ride as a farewell to the ride. So instead of playing "hidden mickeys" on the jungle cruise, play "hidden boots" :)

Love love love! This thread is AMAZING!!

This stuff really fascinates me, and as a PP said, it's all the behind the scenes and clever stuff that contributes to the magic!

Just downloaded that notecast app a couple of you have mentioned too. Also brilliant :)

Thanks for starting this thread! Keep it coming :cool1:

There is a slight hill from the Train Station to the Castle. The illusion is to help people feel like the walk is longer to the Castle so they will not run in the morning. Whereas, when leaving it doesn't look as far so Guests will not get as tired walking out.

I heard it from a different perspective.... insomuch that when you arrive you are full of energy and can deal with the uphill climb. On the way out, you are so tired, you don't mind walking downhill!!

Interestingly enough, the pavement at the castle is approximately 6ft higher than it is when you enter the park... quite a slope when you think about it!

The way I've always heard it is that pointing with one finger is considered an extremely rude gesture in certain cultures, although it's certainly possible that Walt felt that way too.

Nope, CMs go through an orientation class, called Traditions, and are specifically trained not to point with one finger because someone in the direction of where they are pointing may think that they are being pointed at and may be embarassed. The two finger point eliminates that possibility. It's called the Disney Point? Now ask me about the Disney Lean?

Ooh, pick me, pick me...what's the Disney Lean??

Some positions require that you be on your feet for long periods of time. So in order to take some of the pressure off your legs, CMs will find a nearby wall, railing, trash can, etc. You then make a fist and put it behind your back and lean up against it. Because there is a space between you and whatever you've picked as support, it appears that you're just standing and not leaning against it. Why go through all this? Disney does not want CMs leaning. It's called a Bad Show. And you will be called on it if seen doing it.

I find that so fascinating and will have to watch for it now! Thanks for sharing! I was the one who originally posted about the pointing too and now find myself doing it IRL. I just say it's my own personal pre-conditioning for my 'one day' Disney dream job :goodvibes

this is a great thread, i took the keys to the kingdom tour in oct and we are taking it again in december. sorry if this was covered but i was amazed to find out that the thatched roof on the tiki room building is made of strips of steel.

I do not think this was mentioned yet - the Casey's Corner umbrellas are red and white. Not only is that to match the baseball theme of the shop, but it's also a visual cue for first aid!

In line with Casey's, the MK tip board is designed as a baseball score board. The one at Epcot is the giant TV for the future and DHS is a chalkboard, like a movie slate (clapboard).

Walt's vision of EPCOT, Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow, was never realized. He had intended it to be a place where people would live, work, and play. Disney kept the name but abandoned Walt's concept. It turned out to be what we have now. But Walt's general concept of EPCOT was realized, sort of. There is a beautiful town designed and built by Disney at WDW where people do live work and play. It's not the futuristic city that Walt intended. In fact it's based on the turn of the century towns, but other than that, it's Walt's EPCOT. It's called Celebration and it's a great place to visit when you're at WDW. It's a total Disney creation, but it's not a fantasy, it's real. One problem is that it's so nice, WDW CMs can't afford to live there.

I've heard on all of the major Disney landmarks forced prospective is used to make the buildings look taller and larger then they actually are.

Celebration is a nice place...the city's website has a link to the Wikipedia article, so I think the info is reliable.
