What printer to buy for 12 x 12 scrapbooking?

I am a traditional scrapbooker (not digital). I am looking for a printer that I will be able to print my journaling on a 12 x 12 page. It would be a plus if it did a good enough job to print my photos on also (mostly 4x6, but larger prints occasionlly)!

Does anyone here have any suggestions as to a reliable printer that can do this for me. I realize that this will probably be costly, but I'm hoping to convince DH that it will make a great b-day gift for me this year, so if it would do photos too, then that would help with the sell!

Before I went digital, I printed my journalling for paper scrapbooks. I just chose a coordinating color cardstock to my background and sometimes double matted it for extra color and just printed it the size of my text, which was usually a couple inches square. I also printed out picture captions, which were small too. You don't need a wide printer to do this.

If you really want a 12x12 printer, they are costly, over $500 and there are just a few to choose. You can do a search at bestbuy.com or another shop of your choice to see what's available, they all state their print out sizes.

How do you do journaling on the computer? Is there a program for this?

I just type my journaling in - use whichever font I want and you can even print it on colored cardstock. However, I bought several of the Creative Lettering CD's ( http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/shop/category.ihtml?cat_id=11 ) which allow you to use journaling shapes - for instance a balloon, a circle, even Mickey ears. I just print them on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets and cut them out, mat them and put them on my page.

This is how I have been doing it so far, as well as printing on vellum. I do like how my pages look, I am just wanting more options for my journaling and page titles, etc.

I have looked at best buy online and in the store. I am hoping that someone here can give me first hand experience with their printer before I invest in one myself!

I have an HP Photosmart 8750. I looked at the prices of ink refills and it wasn't bad. I got it because it was a closeout floor model and we got a great deal $350- with a warrenty. I would suggest seeing if any of your computer stores happen to have a deal like that if you want to save money. The only thing I knew was that my ink will run out faster if many people printed the sample pages but since refilling all the cartridges for the machine is only about $40 I decided it was worth the price break.

You can use Word or whatever word processing program you use. With Word you can change fonts and colors to match your layout.

I do use Word for all my journaling. Then I print it on 8 1/2 x 11 full sheet clear labels. I usually wait until the page is full since the labels are kind of spendy. Then I either put it right on page or maybe pick a color cardstock to mount it on. Either way you rarely see the label just the printing.

I have the HP deskjet 9800. I have only used it for a few pages-they turned out nice. It uses the 96 cart.

I will swear by my Epson R1800- for printing beautiful photos as well as printing out 12x12 pages. Also great for journaling directly on 12x12 pages, although, I usually just do text boxes on 8.5 x 11 and mat.

A 12X12 printer is on my Wish List for next Christmas. I'd rather have a printer than a Cricut even. I love to use my computer to do scrapping stuff and I don't think I'd ever not use my computer. I also love to print on 8.5X11 paper now and also vellum. Great way to do journal boxes and make fun titles.
