What personal care items are available in resort stores?

We might fly in with carry-ons only. Which means no razor. I don't like using disposable razors - they cut up my legs too much, so I'm curious if I can purchase a real razor at any of the resorts. Not sure which resort we'll decide to stay in yet. Anyone know? Thanks!

Or, has anyone flown recently and been allowed to pack a razor in carry on. I don't think we can, but haven't looked into it too much. Thanks!

You're allowed to take a razor on the plane in your carry on. There is nothing wrong with that. You can also take any shaving cream that's under 3oz. I do this all the time. In the actual rooms you will get shampoo and conditioner, hand soap and sometimes lotion (I think it depends which level resort you stay at - aka. value, moderate, deluxe).

Thanks! That shows how often we fly with ONLY carry-ons! Usually we pack all that stuff in the checked luggage just to be safe.
Great to know. Thanks!

Hang on!!!! You're only allowed to take a DISPOSABLE razor in your carry-on, not a "real* shaving razor. If you have a "real" razor, it MUST be in checked baggage.

I work for TSA.

Okay that is what I thought to begin with. Whew, good to know. Well then, I hope they have decent regular razors at the resort stores I can buy. Thanks for the heads up!

I wouldn't expect to see anything other than disposable razors in the resort shops. They have a pretty good selection of toiletries and OTC meds though.

Do you mean the standard razor with the Gillette blades? I didn't know you could buy anything other than disposable anymore :lmao:

If you plan to buy one, then why not buy online and have it shipped to the resort? Since you won't be able to bring it home either, you'll have to throw it away or ship it back. You can bring a prepaid mailer or work with your hotel concierge.

You used to be able to get a real old-timey shave at the Harmony Barber Shop at MK. Don't know if they still do it since it's become more of a tourist-y thing with first haircuts, gel and pixie dust. My DH did it back in the 80's based on a suggestion of a friend. He's got one of those "Fred Flintstone" beards that's really tough to get really close and he said it was the best shave he ever had.

I sort of doubt the Main St barber would shave the OP's legs. :rotfl2:

OP...what about a small container of Veet or something similar. You could also get a wax....that lasts 2-3 weeks.

Umm, I think you are mistaken. Unless the OP is shaving her legs with an old timey straight razor she can certainly bring on the likes of a Venus ladies razor.

Here is a blog entry from the TSA clarifying the shaving debate.

By "REAL" razor, I was referring to the double-edge blade, not a "venus" type razor. I consider those "disposeable". The "real" double-edge blades were the ones I thought the OP was referring to.

The second "banned" type you're showing (the one I highlighted in purple) is the type I thought she was talking about

I don't see how what I said was wrong at all.

I don't know a single woman who shaves with such a straight razor. Perhaps the OP can chime in by what she means by a "real" razor.

My gut says the OP was talking about a typical razor with replacable cartridges and not an old timey straight razor. If the OP is truly talking about an old timey straight razor then the OP is SOL, I have never seen such items in a hotel gift shop. Also such old timey razors are quite a bit $$$ and considering it only $25 on most airlines to check a bag, she would be better checking a bag with said razor than spending close to $100 for one in a hotel gift shop, if one were offered for sale.

Ha! Sorry to cause controversy. Yes, I meant a Venus type razor with replacement cartridges. I just don't like the totally disposable kind. And I don't think I'd even know what to do with a straight razor. :rotfl2:

Thanks everyone. We might just check one bag with other things anyway and if so I'll just throw my razor in that. Now that we think about it, we want to pack a bunch of sunscreen too and that will be more than allowed in carry-on, so we might as well check one bag and have all that extra space to bring home souvenirs. Yeah!

You may want to consider buying your preferred items at home and shipping them (in a small box) to your resort. I know they sell toothpaste, face wash, and make-up remover, but I'm picky about those items & would rather have my favorite brands. Not sure if you feel the same way, but it would help with your razor dilemma. Have a great trip!!!

A 'straight edge' razor is vastly different from the regular 'disposable' razors out there. I use the Schick Intuition..so no need for any creme...it's all in one. No problem packing it in my carryon. Do it all the time.

That made my day! I can't stop laughing about this. Yeah, I don't think that they'd want to shave my legs for me at the Main Street Barber shop! Ha!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

:rotfl2: Wait a minute - where in the OP's original post did it say she was a woman??? :lmao: I was on Mars when everyone else was on Venus, obviously! :rotfl:

What about ordering from Garden Grocer? You have to make a minimum order of 40 dollars but you could also order sodas, water, and anything else.:)
